Mazdas

I'll never doubt Mazda again (Mazda 3 or 6). I've seen it in action yesterday and it changed my mind. That thing handled like a beast around the autocross track..probably the only car (there were 3 of them (same mazdas) and all three did equally the same) that flew and cut corners like crazy.

I didn't like Mazda too much before, but I will be one of my option cars next time I'm looking for a car.

welcome...

Yeah if you like European fords, you will like MAzdas in the US. Ford and Mazda have combined their thorough knowledge of handling and the collaborative projects of each are great handling cars ... both Mazda6 and Mazda3/5 are the best handling cars in their class.. and one has to point out.. that despite some cheapness of Fords in the US, people recognize Fords handle well.. unlike many other domestic or Japanese makes...

Ford and Mazda are doing a great job... I know you sill still not like their interior ... after all if you owned a good car in europe, yo uare spoiled beyong US belief.. but their engines and handling is beyond anythign at their comparative price points.

FINALLLY, PRAISE THE LORD

See Sinan, i told you, you had to go out and see for yourself first before making all those comments. Now, go back to all those threads were you hated on mazda and edit them and just put, *EDITED B/C I AM NOT WORTHY*

J/K nice to see you keepin your mind open, they really are great cars, after all, Ford didnt just pick any old chassie to continue the legendary focus handling for the MKII.

whatever...shut up...

I'm kinda guilty because I never bothered to find out about it...

I'm still hardcore VW fan though, but I won't say anything bad about Mazdas anymore either...so there...

Maybe Honda Civic Si needs to come to the track and earn it's respect like Mazda did...only then I'll stop calling it a "ricer"

I am 95% sure my next car is going to be a Mazda 3 5 door.

Handled awesome and was so peppy!!

And cute as a bug.

Yeah, I'm a girl.

I just wondered about Mazda reliability....I have a 2000 Focus so I've been through the ringer a bit and want to avoid that again.

Honestly at this point, buying a Mazda here in the United States is about as close as we are ever going to get to owning a European Ford product - save for buying one of the newer Volvos, I guess. If Ford won't put their best efforts into the products they sell under their own name, then it's time to start looking for ways to get the good stuff... and the Mazda3/Mazda6 (especially the MazdaSpeed varieties) are a good place to start.

I just bought a 2003 Focus today. I own a 1985 Mazda RX7 and have frequently autocrossed in it. It is a beast in sheep's clothing.

I'm begining to think that Ford is making a good choice by selling the Euro Fords as Volvo (people who want safety & euro style) and Mazda (people who want Japanese reliability). This leaves Ford itself as the bargain brand of passenger cars, big trucks and powerful cars. Seeing as all of the American brands have been hit with the same label of "cheap and unreliable" the past 10~15 years, it makes alot of sense. This arrangement allows Ford to keep bargaining away Focus way under sticker prices, hence getting a decent volume out the door. Mazda and Volvo can bargain harder, getting a hefty profit margin selling the cars near sticker price. Excellent brand management.

Back to the cars though. The 3 is an excellent car, but I don't like the all the lights in the interior. I prefer the simplicity of the mk 1 Focus. Also, it felt like the through of the shifter was quite long. Another disappointment is that the MZR doesn't seem to get much better milage than the Zetec...although I'd like independent confirmation of that (Igor?). The good bits are a great suspension, stiff chassis, all wheel disc brakes, available 2.3 MZR engine, reliability and resale value Ford can only dream of.

I'm a big fan of current VW's from a design and engineering* standpoint, but their reliability is a serious turn-off. They need make a huge leap in reliability to return to growth in the American market...that's for sure.
