40hp ecu flasher!!

i was just watching horsepower tv and they gained 40hp on a stock 03 cobra....was wondering how that was even possible and y our focus only gains on the average from what ive read 5-8hp....i would assume it has to do with the fact that its a super V8 where there is more room for gains, but what do you guys think?? What factors could give a 40hp gain?? Just got me thinking I should pick up one soon if you can gain hp in minutes without even touching the engine...

I think your line of thinking is correct, we're pushing 160hp out of our little 'ole 2.0liter 4bangers and it's just relative that the gains from a 4.6liter/5.4liter FI'd Cobra will be that much larger...

Generally, you can get a ton more power form tuning if your car is turbo/supercharged or a diesel. It's just the way it is.

isn't cobra SC or Turbo? FI responds VERY well to Tuning..(d'oh)

Otherwise. it might simply be as you said.. a precentage gain... addig 10% - for us that is 13hp, for Cobra 40kp

ic....yeah I didnt even know we could even get 10hp from a flash or chip....i didnt realize that 40hp on top of 360 prolly wasn't incredible for the guys doing it as it was to me cause they're already pushin 360hp...another quick question, sry, but are the reflashers/chips worth the money?? The xcal and xcal2 are only showing 5-7 hp gains even with i/h/e and that seems not worth $300....plus I just want some quick horse on my stock engine before I get i/e...which won't be for a while.

is your 03 hatch a 2.0 zetec or a 2.3 Duratec?

I only know my stuff with Duratecs, so this might not apply to Zetecs.. Our engines stock have pretty good tuning.. however when tuning a stock car, ford of course went very conservative.. it should be smooth, reasonably powerful and fuel efficient.. as a result tuning is a compromise..

Hooking up an Xcal or XCal2 will let you change this tuning to your liking.. make it more powerful buut not as smooth, or sacrifica a bit of power for better fuel economy... etc.. However this is not by any HUGE margins... Actually, some people claim that in most cases the stock tune is so good Xcal is not worth for tuning a STOCK engine. - but this is SOME people against plety of others that stand by usefulnessof XCal.. And oince you add mods to your car, tuning is not only useful it is pretty much needed to extract all the power from the mods.

If you have an AUTO, Wayne (Hypnotic) has a gret tune that makes it shift faster (gains more power, reduces wear on tranny) but makes the shift harsher.. this is a tune worth getting on any ATX car.

Now in reality, you will not be doing the tuning yourself.. If you buy a flasher from Hypnotic, for example you will get a custom tune for what you want to do with the engine, and what you have on the engine.. and then you have 6month tuning subscription.. so if you put in a new intake, Wayne can send you a new tune that lets you use the power from that intake ...etc...

That is very true and is why u can get a shitload of hp from tuning a wrx...or a gti,gli.. these cars just tune well cause the turbos have alot of potential

The 03 Cobra is supercharged with an Eaton SC.

I belive the shifting harder part, but the less wear on the tranny is bullshit.

ANYTIME you make a transmission shift HARDER than factory specs you increase wear and tear on it. Harder shifts greatly increase the amount of stress applied to the tranny.

The shift "harder" means that there is less time the tranny is the PROCESS of disengaging ang engaging... this poricess it the process that wears the tranny (just like having a clutch half way in wears the clutch on MTX) .. by reducing the duration of the process, one reduces the wear on the tranny... simple as that.. and a byproduct of this is that the shift is not as smooth, becuase it is faster....

MIND YOU.. this is just about the speed of the PROCESS of shifting the ATX.. not the timing of WHEN the shift occurs..
