2005 SES/ZXW issues question.

A friend is looking at purchasing a 2005 Focus SES/ZXW with the 2.0L (don't know if those are Zetecs yet) and the "things to look out for" came up. Just going off my limited memory I seem to remember hearing of stalling and some sort of auto tranny issues in the new 2005's. Somebody correct me if I am wrong and/or tell me what else I should mention.

Thanks in advance.

There is a hard start/no start condition on the '05 Focus but that's with the manual box AFAIK, though my auto '05 ZX4 SES does it on occasion too.

When it no starts you have to shut it down and wait a full five seconds before trying it again, otherwise yer cranking until you're blue in the face

if it's a Wagon, I believe they come with the Duratech 2.3 with 150hp, or something like that..

No, the only 05 that comes with the 2.3 is the ST.

All the others come with the 2.0 Duratec.

Tell your friend to be sure and wait until Saturday, as I believe there will be a new $500 rebate added, if financed through Ford Credit, in addition to the current $2,000 rebate and free auto transmission (or $500 credit on a manual transmission) and they will also toss in a free two-year, 24,000 maintenance agreement (which basically is no more than free oil changes, since on would not expect brake pads or other things to wear out that soon, but it's free).

Well, I also had the option of X plan and found that on a Focus I could actually get a better deal directly from the dealer.

I also had one of those "personal" $500 rebates I received by requesting a "in the mail" brochure from the fordvehicles web site which excluded X plan. So at the end of the day, I got my Focus for $700 than the comparible X plan price.

Remember, if you are going X plan, the dealer cannot charge you their typical "documentation" fee... you know, that $100 or so "junk" fee they add. If he goes X-plan, be sure to take along the x-plan documentation so you can show them that they cannot add such fees to the X plan price, as part of the X plan fee the dealer receives is meant to cover this. The dealer will argue with you, so have the documentation when you close the deal.

This might be of help to your friend in making a deal. I actually will take delivery of my SES ZXW this Saturday (waiting for a rebate to kick in). The deal is $20,779 MSRP, plus $99 service fee, plus $46 license/title fees, less $1,509 dealer discount, less $2,000 rebate, less $815 for "free auto transmission," less $500 "personal rebate" from brochure ford mailed to me, less $500 Ford Credit rebate, for a net of $16,601. With a smokers kit tossed in and the "free 2 yr/26,000 maintenance."

The $2,000 Cash and $815 free auto tranmission is compatible with X plan, but the personal rebate of $500 is not. I do not know if the upcoming $500 Ford credit rebate is compatible with the X plan price, but I suspect it will be, based on past practices.

Oops, Bad Math on my part. The final price should be $15,601. My agreement sheet doesn't show the last two $500 rebates, as they have to be put into the system Satuday when I go to pay for it and pick it up.

For what its worth, I have a 9 month-old 05 SES wagon-- it has the 2.0 liter 136 hp duratec. So far with about 8900 miles, fine car-- with no probs except the rear hatch release located on the dash only works 1 of ten times. I'll get that fixed (on Ford) when I go in for next service.

Compared to many other wagons available, I think these are a real bargain.
