maybe buying SVT Recaro

I scheduled an appointment to view a svt that I may potentially buy. Its a 2004. Other than the obvious, is there anything I should go over with a fine tooth comb before making my decision? It'll be my 1st svt so I just want to make sure.

By the "obvious"' do you mean timing assembly/water pump, thermostst housing, clutch master cylinder etc, and that you have read this:
New Members Read Here First. SVT Performance Chat "Read First" Threads. and this: http://forums.focaljet.com/ford-svt-...es-sticky.html.
If it is the silver zx3 in Seabrook, it looks pretty good on CL, though those do not look like the original EAP wheels. Get a carfax, and service records. Get the VIN and have your local Ford dealer run it through the Ford data base.
Good luck, hope it's a good one.

Record of the timing belt being done. Other than that, look for mismatched paint or clear coat consistences to spot body work. Inspect, feel the door jams for paint lines or general weirdness. Drive the car with the stereo off and windows down to listen for any weird mechanical issues.

And so on.

Check around the clutch pedal and floor mat for brake fluid. The clutch master cylinder is a pretty common problem with the manual focus.

Also check around the thermostat housing for coolant. The SVT's have a little plug on the bottom of the thermostat housing that has a notoriously problematic o-ring.

Like the guys above me said, the timing belt is probably the most important item to check. Since the SVT has an interference engine, a broken timing belt usually means bent valves and sometimes busted pistons, head damage, or even a bent crank.

We've been chatting throughout the week trying to set up a time for me to look at it. Something keeps coming up and they cannot provide any service records or the VIN.
However, they say they will be able to shoot me the VIN later on tonight which means I will probably have to have a dealer run the VIN through the database tomorrow. Will that be possible on a saturday and how do I go about getting the VIN run through the database?
Thank you all for the heads up and all.

I finally got a hold of the vin and looked it up on Carfax. no structural damage, no airbag deployment, no total loss, no odometer roll back. What catches me is that it does report being in an accident in 07 and it only has 4 service records which are not specific.
