Buying my Focus tomorrow possibly...any advice?

Just what the title says. I have been researching the heck out of cars and basically I want a focus. Got the moneys all lined up and just sold my POS ion for cash tonight. Any advice on anything to look out for when buying my new Focus? I posted this hear since I bet this is where the smartest ppl are when dealing with this car that are truly objective.

Thanks all I cant freaking wait...
Jeff Z.

General Technical Chat is for technical discussions relating to general maintenance, electrical issues, engine trouble, and recalls. You'll get more responses in Ford Focus and General Car Chat. You might even want to browse or start another thread in the 3rd Generation Focus Chat section with the 2012 owners.

My only advice is to make sure you drive the car that you want to buy. Some of these cars are having transmission problems with the DCT that are annoying. Drive it for as long as the dealer will let you drive it and make sure that is what you want. I would ask the sales rep where you can find a hill to double check the incline holding feature. Most people have no problems, and there are no problems with the manual transmission except that it is only a 5 spd. I expect 6 spd manuals to show up in these cars in 2013 or 14.

Ask if it has the newest version of the transmission programming.
The new software got rid of the jerkyness. Even with it, it can still be jerky for sometime as its one of those programs that learns your driving style, and because of that its a little jerky untill that process is complete. I have auto on my 2012, works fine after the software flash. Dont let the complaining turn you off, they are fantastic cars.

You need to remember that their is a learning period for the transmission. German quality design that is far better than any other compact car on the market!

I would recommend a manual transmission, if that's something you can do. The Dual Clutch Transmission seems to get a lot of complaints around here. Manuals are more fun anyways! :D

Remember the 5 speed is both down a gear and less efficient since the Dual clutch automated manual has a second overdrive ratio to keep the revs nice and low on the freeway and in regular driving.

Its also great when they work, and they tend to work more than the few vocal members here who love to spread fear uncertainty and doubt.

Manuals might be more fun, and I've had one for the last 3 years before I got my latest car, but the mtx-75 essentially had the same gear ratios as my 1994 Geo Prizm LSI and ultimately leads to the engine screaming at over 3000 rpm just to go 70 mi/hr.

Some times I miss declutching and manually changing gears, but since my DCT is one of the good ones I love it dearly.

The DCT transmissions works great for the majority of owners. Nothing to fear. Drive your new Focus and see for yourself.

Contact the dealers internet manager. Easiest way to get a decent deal.
