Look up your state's safety inspection regulations. There should be a handbook online stating what inspectors check for with exhaust and emissions control. That's what I did not too long ago.

Differs everywhere, usually depends how much they want to break your balls even at inspection

screw inspection, do what you want! lol. It's easier to ask forgiveness than for permission... I don't know.

Try that. Now in my personal opinion an individual's personal freedom and right to do with their property what they will is far more important that any state regulations but we don't get much choice in the matter now do we. Hope this helps a little man. GL.

^you might talk about "personal freedom" but keep in mind it's also my own personal freedom to sleep at night without @ss-chunks in Harley Davidson's coming back from the bars at 3:00 AM with no exhaust at all waking me up.

Two sides to every coin...

mmmhm. A very good point indeed! I suppose a good compromise lies somewhere in the middle. I don't really care for loud exhaust either.

the afforementioned harley has no cat! a car is suppose to have a cat so the cat will act as a sound control device so an unmuffled harley is louder that a car with even straight pipe cat-back. i find that at 3:00 am the harley rider is purposely making his bike loud. having ridden a very loud harley before.. i can tell you that it is possible to not wake the dead if you dont wind the engine out to redline between every gear. ....btw i think triumphs sound better!!!

to answer your question. no, you dont need your resonators as long as you have some type of muffler. I have a Buick wagon and i had the resonators and muffler removed and installed a set of flowmasters. it passes every time.
my brother has the same car ...his passes too! unless the inspection shop wants to be a dick they will pass you. most....hell 99% wont look twice at it.
