Car dealership help!!!

Hey guys, 50 days ago from today, I purchased a Used Ford Focus here in Texas. I was given Temp tags. The dealership is suppose to mail me the title, license plates, and registration sticker. I paid the final amount for the car one week after I purchased it. Now it's going on day 50, the temp tags expire in 10 days and I have to have a ride to work!

The car dealership keeps giving me the run around. I done got into it with them numerous times. They say they will call me back, and never call back. They ignore my emails. Today I spoke with someone in the title department. She says that the car came from an auction, so in other words their still waiting on the title. But the day I purchased the car, the finance guy told me I would recieve the title in 7-10 days or a maximum of two weeks after it was paid off. I thought I read somewhere online that cars going through a dealer auction have to have the title signed when they walk through the door?

Someone please help, I might need some legal advice because if they refuse to give me the title after I paid $4,000.00 cash to this dealership then were going to be going to court.

Go back to the dealer in person.

Demand a title. If one is not given to you. Call the police.
It's as simple as that.

YEah, the moral of this story is make certain the dealer HAS the title in hand before buying a used car.
I would think the dealer is having a problem aquiring the title, and is thus giving YOU the run around.
mainly the point is the dealer NEVER did own the car, Thuus the STOLE your money and illegally gave you a car they had no right to sell.
Explain this to them, Tell them when you DO lawyer up, it is going to cost them way more than The purchase price.
They are totally in the wrong here, and can either give you your money back, or another car worth more than what you paid,
Or you should call the cops.

Well the dealer I bought my MS3 from was out of state. We wrote the check and they mailed us the title a week or so later. I assumed so the check clears...

maybe things in texas are different, but since when does a dealership give you tags and stickers? That sounds fishy to me.

I called them again later today, and she promised I will have the tags and sticker sent out before my tags expire. It seemed she explained it that she has until my temp tag expires. But it seems I read somewhere the process usually takes 7-10 days. I wonder if I should wait these last few days out and see what happens? I really feel they are violating me in some way.

In texas, when you buy a used car from a lot, they give you a "E tag" and transfer the title through the revenue department or something, then they send you your tags and registration sticker. Inspection sticker is done differently.

While I live in Florida, my car is registered in the great state of Minnesocold. In Minnesota the title can take as much as two months, but the plates usually come in two weeks or so. When you pick up a new car, the dealer affixes a temporary tag to the inside of your rear window. These tags are small (maybe 8in by 4in), have typewritten numbers on them and can't really be read from much more than two feet away. This last part caused an interesting adventure.

About three days after I drove the car home to Florida, I was minding my own business and heading back home after having dropped off my dry cleaning. I noticed a local Impala 9C1 behind me, but paid it no mind since I was well under the speed limit and wasn't doing anything else dumb (I hold a CDL). Sure enough, the Impala lit them up. I pulled over, genuinely clueless on what the problem was. A VERY attractive female officer approached me and said "Out for a test drive or something?" I said "No, ma'am, just bought it, it's brand new" "Oh", she said "Nice car, but where's your tag at?" I said "That thing on the rear window is it, that's what they give you in Minnesota." She seemed genuinely stunned. "That's it?!!!" she said "But there is no way I can read it!". I said I felt her pain, but that's all they gave me. She ran my license and the VIN and sent me on my merry way after advising me that perhaps I should see about getting the plates ASAP because she could see me being stopped again. So, I called my dealer and told them the situation. They FedEx'ed the plates to me the next day.

There's a small dealer in my town where you can get titles, title transfers, license plates and registration stickers. All legit. Dealers can be partnered with the DMV and allowed to offer that type of stuff.

If I remember correctly, this guy is actually cheaper than the DMV also.

No. They've had long enough. Go there and demand the title now. If they don't fork it over, call the police.

If she DOES have until tags expire to get the title to you, then the cop will let you know that. Don't take their word for it. Take matters into your own hands and get it done.

Several years ago, I bought a '95 Ford Escort to drive the 250-mile round trip to grad school, since I wanted to keep the miles off my other car. With the paper tag in the window, I got stopped on Day 2 by a Missouri State Trooper, who said the tag looked either forged or tampered with. He kept me on a long stop going through all my paperwork while questioning my (true) story...he was fishing.

The next day, I went to the DMV 27 days early to pay the tax, title and registration. While she was handing me my new plates, she called the temporary tags "cop magnets," because it seemed like everyone in the area was coming in early after the same type of encounter.

yeah you should have had your plates and sticker by now, almost every one of the used dealerships i have been too at least have the title. If not they do not post the car as For Sale till they have it. All they need is for you to finish paying it off and they get the plates and sticker for you ASAP. I would fight tooth and nail especially since the car is paid in full.
