I heard some talk about the 2012 focus taking premium, now i was wondering if the 2008 focus also can take premium and if it'd make a difference. lol...

As long as its unleaded it will be fine but it doesnt do anything... Its just cleaner fuel.

No, its not cleaner fuel. It contains more octane, while increases the gasoline's resistance to knocking. Since the 2012 has 12:1 compression ratio, a higher octane fuel is needed.

But like said above, running a high octane fuel in an engine not designed for it just wastes money.

I run premium in my 09', but I also have a custom tune to take advantage of the higher octane. In a untuned car you will see no effects for using premium over regular.

while some of the comments above are true to a degree, they arent completely.
most regular unleaded now contains ethanol which in itself has less efficiency as a fuel. fuels containing it get less mpg and less power dependent on the car.
most premium fuels do not contain ethanol so they can show an increased mpg and power over those with it.
the same holds true for lower octane fuels without ethanol.
Personally I run only premium in my cars due to doing my own testing of fuels and finding it gave the best mpg and power per dollar. but thats for you to decide.
whatever you do, never buy fuel from a station that doesnt refill their tanks frequently as ethonol seperates from gasoline in a fairly quick time and you may end up getting a slug of ethanol at some point

Here is what I was taught

Using premium gas in a car that only requires regular won’t help performance.

As for cars for which premium gas is recommended, but not required, using a higher-grade gas like premium will give you better engine performance, but not significantly better mileage.

A lot of it has to with flash points and things like that.

Also if you google this you'll find quite a bit about it. There are all sorts of test that have been run on this very subject.
