stupid emissions laws

so last week i went to get an inspection and my emissions test was not supported. the guy never seen this before or heard about it. so went to my mechanic and said that the new emissions software wont read anything on your car if you have it reprogrammed. now he knows that i have the sct chip to delete my cel for the cat converter so if i want to pass inspection i need to take the chip out and get it done. looks like i will be needing the pig tail to over ride the cel now.

what, that's stupid. I have not heard of this yet. I liked how it was before, no cel or DTC's= pass.

So, if you are running a tune that makes your car more fuel efficient and reduces the emissions, it makes your car fail? That's stupid.

I live in PA and we have one of the most strict emisssions standards in the US besides California. Its odd that it wont read anything, it should pick something up from your OBD. I can understand that you need a certain amount of modules in the ECU to reset but it should read. In my state I was failing the OBD readiness check because not all the modules were reseting in the ecu because of the downstream O2, the EGR system and the IAC being disabled.

If you find a spark plug fouler however and drill it out so that the o2 fits in it acts a a cheater by taking the O2 out of the exhaust stream enough that it doesnt throw a code. I think they cost about 2 bucks at the auto parts store. It still allows the sensor to heat up but doesnt catch the no cat deal. We did this with my friends Z28 with header back SLP's.

He's failing because of no cat I take it, so even though its more efficient its not reducing emissions because theres no cat. Emissions is set up to help try to eliminate modified cars, they want factory equipment in the cars working correctly. When ya modify things this is what ya deal with.

Find me more about how the test works. Just seems really odd that a flash reprogram makes it not pass. Emissions updates from the dealer are installed the exact same way as the SCT tunes.
