Ford announces no more CD players in the Focus

Ford just announced no more installing CD players in new Focus vehicles.

From one of our local news station's websites:

"You could say it's a sign of the times. Ford is no longer installing CD players in its new Focus vehicles. The car company is putting in USB sockets for digital music players instead.

The vehicles will have a computer hub where you can access your music library via the web.

Ford is the first automaker to replace CD players for digital music technology."

I remember being amused that my 2003 FX45 had a cassette player, and they were so embarrassed by it they hid it behind a flip-down door (between the climate control buttons and the clock in this photo).

No CD, and those are my initials. Goodbye old technology, hello new.

Our 2005 Toyota Sienna came with a Cassette Player. WTH.

Moved to "Ford Focus & General Car Chat"

That's a crazy move. But on the same note my aftermarket headunit has only had a cd in it a handful of times.

Yeah, my 2001 Eclipse had a cassette player as well. Never even put a cassette for the first 7 years but eventually bought a cassette adapter for my iPod/phone. Oh well, it did serve some purpose for a brief while!

Hi, the foci will be coming with a cd for as long as it is built. Of course, like all car manufacturers, once digital players become the norm, they will stop fitting cd players. However that's not in the immediate future...

A $10 flash drive (4gb) will hold over 700 MP3 songs and works just as well as an Ipod.
