6 speed auto

This is actually my first new car ever. I am impressed so far sitting at 32 mpg combo driving still on the first tank. I`m anxious to see how close the computer counter is to the hand calculator on the first refill. I am not heavy on the pedal but it really gets on it if you need it and the manual shift feature is pretty cool.

nice. Glad to hear that the real life gas milage is in fact what they stated. I test drove it and you are right they accelerate pretty good since they go through the revs pretty quickly. And you mean the select shift rigt ?

Yes the select shift is pretty slick. The way it was explained to me the tranny is a standard shift with a auto clutch. It double clutches when it shifts and when in select stays in the gear you select with no slipping like an auto. If your on a hill it will act like a clutch pushed in and the car will roll back until you hit the gas and she takes right off. I`m taking mine in tomorrow and get the coating interior and exterior I figure what the heck it is my first new car.

Kind of. The best way to imagine it is 2 3-speed transmissions next to each other. The gear you are in is selected on one clutch (which is engaged) and the NEXT gear you need is selected on the second clutch (disengaged). When shifting it instantly transfers power to the other side. Super fast and as (or more in our case) efficient as a manual.

And super smooth I might add!

It's a little sluggish off the line but peps up nice and quick once you get about a few thousand rpm or so.

I've never had an automated manual but so far I'm pretty happy.

Cool that explains it alot better I was trying to imagine how the double clutch thing worked so it has two clutches 1-3-5 and 2-4-6 it shifts then dumps the clutch yea it sure is smooth.

If you're interested, there's a good technical explanation of how the dual clutch transmission works here. The concept has been around for many years, but the Ford implementation is pretty clever. Some of the other unique features are described here.
