fuel reset?

what is that the little red button on the passenger side kick plate labeled "fuel reset" used for the dealer didn't say a thing about it when I bought it? thanks. I realize I could go out and get my manual but I figured I would have an answer in now time on here. btw 40 mpg kicks ass

Thanks all

At least in the past Ford has had a fuel cutoff circuit that disables the fuel pump in the event of an accident. However if you hit a bad pothole or bump in the road just right the system can disable the fuel pump because it thinks it detected an impact. So that button is probably to reset the circuit that disables the fuel pump.

wow I am glad I asked I would have been sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck cursing the world. Thank you very much. I would think that would have to be one hell of a pothole. intersting.

FWIW, back in the day a buddy of mine had a 2001 Mercury Cougar and it happened to us while we were going somewhere. We hit a nasty bump / pothole and had the car promptly die. Thankfully we weren't on the side of the road too long. Someone he called knew about that "feature" on Fords and we found the button without waiting too long.

A hit and run in a parking lot has been known to trip these too. If they hit your bumper, you may not even have any damage but the car won't start.

Exactly. I hit a deer with the wife's Explorer and it tripped the fuel shutoff.

Question

Does the '03 Focus have a reset for the fuel, and where is it located?

Any pictures?
