I don't think I should watch and listen to these A-holes at CR.
Zero credibility in my books.

But I will guess that they harp about rear seat room, high pricing, and damn the Focus if it has the MyFordTouch.

CR can eat my shorts, as we used to say in the old days :-)

Meh, it's not a great review, nor a terrible one. Pretty much what I expected from Consumer Reports, actually.

6 paragraph article.

First 2 paragraphs talk about the past Focus and slam it. They forgot to mention the Pinto.

Many people dont read past that stuff and won't know what the rest of it says.

Shows their inherent bias. Same group that admitted to not reviewing new Toyota vehicles and giving them great reviews if the prior vehicle had great reviews and Toyota told them not much changed. For Ford, however, they are told its a totally new vehicle, but decide to dredge up the old one with the same name. Totally missed the boat on the poor Toyota quality spiral.

Surprised they didnt just say the 2012 Focus sucks since they didnt like the 2000 Focus issues... but they did imply that.

I like edmund's reviews, insideline's reviews, and a few others.

Not huge on Consumer Reports, C/D, R/T.... not that CD and RT review a ton of "normal" cars

Consumer Reports was a big fan of the original Focus...it rated way, way ahead of anything else in the class when it came out back in 2000 and remained one of their top-rated small-cars for the next 7 years despite receiving few major changes - they just didn't recommend it until 2005 because of poor reliability ratings.

It's hard to say what they think of the new one at this point; calling rear seat room "fairly modest" isn't exactly a damning criticism coming from them, considering they called the Fiesta's backseat "nearly useless". Even so I'm thinking rear seat space is going to be their main complaint about this car, as I can't think of anything else readily apparent that's wrong with the Focus.

They gave the Fiesta a very good rating for controls despite the "daunting" cellphone design so there's no reason the Focus won't get the same rating - it has the exact same control layout. Their SEL hatchback was only $22k so I don't think it has MyFord Touch.

They'll like the handling, ride, and quietness of the car, and I bet their real-world fuel-economy figures will come close to if not match the Elantra's which don't seem to be doing a good job living up to the EPA ratings. The main complaint will be rear-seat legroom, and possibly braking on their SE sedan because it doesn't have rear disc brakes (which I think was a very questionable move on Ford's part, by the way). Overall I'm thinking the Focus will pummel the Jetta (like that would be hard) and edge out the Cruze in their ratings, but it'll have a hard time beating the Elantra, which like most new Hyundais and older Toyotas and Hondas seems designed specifically to do well in their tests - objectively near-perfect, subjectively not so much.
