What makes a fun street car?

What does a focus need to be a "fun" street car?

Any kind of torque below 3000 RPM would be nice.

^^You're kidding, right? Seriously, I have plenty of "fun" in My Focus, and don't have any use for a gas guzzling V8.

To the OP: How much fun are You looking to have? You wanna make it STi fun, tires, suspension and FI upgrades would do it, IMO.

::EDIT:: By the way, if You don't own a Focus, and all You wanna do is talk crap about the Focus, then You need to find a new forum to troll. This site is for Focus Enthusiasts, not haters. You don't have to own a Focus to be here, but ripping on the car that this site is dedicated to will not be tolerated for long. KTHNXBAI!

Posted via FF Mobile Id have to say it is the total opposite of what you said, and this beung a focus site Im surprised anyone said anything like this. Tons of power doesnt make a fun street car, because your not gonna have fun trying to keep traction, or when you crash, or when you get pulled over.

A fun around town street car is something thats balanced, you can toss around and is quick a nimble. Things come to mind like the ford focus, fiesta, honda fit, mazda 3, mazda mx5, mazda rx8, mini...things like that. Then you can add in higher end cars like those from lotus, the porsche boxster and cayman. Lots of power doesnt matter, its all about the handling.

Want the focus to be street fun, give it a slight drop with suspension, throw on a good set of tires and light wheels, and get it to make like 170 and 150 ft lbs of tq, thats at the flywheel mind you. Pretty much get it to svt focus specs and youll have a good car.

Driveability. Reasonably quick and responsive acceleration, good handling, good brakes. A car that does what you want with little effort. It's why I bought my Focus.

Buy an SVT, and you won't have to change a thing.

The SVT is a very fun daily driver, but in a straight-line .. It isn't really impressive by any standards. From 25-70 and anywhere in between it's fun and will get up and go very good in the right gear, but from a stop.. It's kind of a dog.

When you say street car, I think of a straight line, and the SVT just is not a straight line car. It's made for twisty turnys, so if you got any of those around or freeways you can have a blast. Of course though a nice road track would be the best place!

I guess a lot of this comes down to what each person considers as a "street car." I don't consider getting going from a stop to be a very important criteria. 25-70 (passing speeds) is exactly where you want the power for a nice light car with good brakes.

If you were serious about having a reliable, fun DD that retains some resale value (no need for tons of mods), an SVT with an ECU tune seems perfect.
