DIY automatic air deflector

Ok ever sense I saw the automatic air deflector sold over in Europe. Ive wanted something like it, so I made my own.

The part listed at fordpartsuk.com is 11pounds and the shipping to the US cost around 45-50pounds which equals about 98USD..I said screw that and made my own

Materials needed:

1. Thin tin metal : Clothes dryer duct will work great
2. Sheet metal screws
3. Tin snips
4. Drill
5. Patients
6. Gloves (optional )

STEPS:

1. Open hood (duh)

2. Remove this part

3. Cut the plastic that is right behind the bug stop or the hump

4. Take you tin and lay out flat and then cut a decent size square out of it

5. Cut slits in the metal..helps with the folding

6. Fold along the slits and make nice crisp folds. DO NOT fold multiple times..itw WILL break off
At this point.. it should look like this

7. Bolt your square onto the Bug stop bump

8. Put it back on your car and your done

If you need help or have suggestions..please pm me or post in here.
I hope those who dont want to pay 98 bucks for a piece of plastic will make their own

BTW: pictures were taking with my Cell phone..real camera is not working great...

What is this for?

Automatic air deflector is kind of ambiguous...
The pictures don't really help either.

On the european focus with the zetec, infront of the air inlet scoop instead of just being a hump, there was a hole and plastic shaped like this. Pretty muh a ram air system, air would go in thru the grill and go directly into the scoop, instead of all over the place like on the us spec.

Ah, so like the grille scoop that directs air over the TMIC on my MS3?

Pretty sweet.

wouldnt it be better to just cut out the wholehump and have a smooth surface running tothe snorkel? this is just a guess i know nothing about this stuff, but wouldnt the little bump thing cause like turbulence?

I got my air deflector from eBay (Greece) for $22 shipped. Yahoo Babelfish works wonders.

to clear some things up...

I left the bump there to act as a barrier and as support for my air deflector. The air is comming more from the bottom of the car instead of from all around.

Two main reason why I did it.
1. It cost 8 dollars to do instead of 98dollars
2. I know that the car is now getting fresher cooler air.
Plus I like the semi-indrustral look
