Question 07 zx5 mpg issues

Recently purchased a 2007 ZX5. It has less than 30K on it now. The MPG for this small car is bad! Only getting 25 MPG on the interstate. Is anyone else having this problem with this model? The car otherwise performs fine. I can get this kind of mileage with a 6 cylinder and enjoy a roomier, safer car.

As usual, the first question is how you got your #'s, followed by the comment that real world #'s for current typical V6 vehicles are like 18 mpg to maybe 20 something on the Hwy.. Just got 32.7 for a 157 mi. thruway cruise with serious windiness (round trip #'s, Miles vs. fill - up) on my '04 sedan, so 25 is low - more like what I get everyday in mixed useage....

Oh, & by the way, a short trip isn't enough for an accurate # - miles per gallon when filled, averaged over a few fill-ups, is the only fairly accurate #.

Check/replace spark plugs, replace fuel filter, the lifetime air filter should not be to clogged with stuff but an upgrade to a cold air intake or short ram will help MPG and performance.

The biggest player in MPG is your driving. Also check out the Duratec Performance chat for everything about your engine.

Biggest factor with a used car is maintenance. A dealer will tell you anything and everything to sell you a car. Have you ever head a dealer say that the
Owner DIDN'T perform all the maintence or it was an eldery persons car. Do the basic and real easy stuff. Tire pressure, run Seafoam in the fuel system,
Air filter, alignment, etc... the biggest factor is always that right foot. You may have to adjust your driving style to optimize your MPG's.

Exactly, the owner could rarely changed the oil, probably never changed the fuel filter, air filter you dont change u have a duratec. Wheels could be unbalanced, alignment is off. Or maybe the owner beat on it. And roomer yes...safer, not always. Guy in a grand cherrokee crashed and burned. Big suv, didnt end up being so safe for him.
