Ford Fusion hybrid brake glitch - recall, not yet

Ford offers fix for Fusion hybrid brake glitch
(actually 17,600 Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion gas-electric hybrids)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100205/...us_ford_fusion

Last paragraph in link below.

"Ford Motor Co. plans to fix 17,600 Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion gas-electric hybrids because of a software problem that can give drivers the impression that the brakes have failed. The automaker says the problem occurs in transition between two braking systems and at no time are drivers without brakes."

Not quite sure what to make of the article. Not necessarily devastating news for Ford.

I wouldn't think so either. Ford is just trying to get out ahead of the perceived problem before the frenzy works itself up to a Toyota level.

Similar to the Prius problem, but only the Fusion actually HAS brakes for that split second, even if it doesnt feel like it.

An interesting factor is that this happened to a Consumer Reports test vehicle and they brought it to light. They realize that there still is full braking capability and aren't changing their "recommended" status of the Fusion/Fusion Hybrid. Can't say the same for Toyota, as they pulled that status from all of their vehicles effected by the recall.

Consumer Reports is the "bible" for many car shoppers, not being "recommended" is a big black mark.
