Volvo "introduces" new 2.0 GTDi engine

I found this info on few web sites, I simpy don't get it?
Volvo introduces...HOW? That same engine WAS introduced in facelift S-MAX and Galaxy models in EU. Also in autozine article it says that this 2.0 L Ecoboost is based on Mazda's MZR engine. Well it's not official but since Focus won't be expensive it would be normal that current Duratec (1.6 and 2.0) lineup is just optimized for turbo...

Does anyone else have any info about ecoboost?

This is from autozine.org
Compare with Mazda, Volvo has taken a bigger step forward. Its new 2.0GTDi direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine is (again) based on Mazda's MZR design with twin-VVT, but added with direct injection and what claimed to be the world's first turbocharger whose housing is integrated with exhaust manifolds and fashioned in steel sheets. Turbochargers integrated with exhaust manifolds are not uncommon these days, but this one employ steel sheet instead of cast iron for the whole exhaust manifolds and turbine housing. The benefits are lighter weight, smaller size and faster to heat up, the latter enables catalytic converter to get into working temperature faster thus reduce cold-start emission. Moreover, its double-layer construction (with thermal insulation between the two layers of steel sheets) reduces heat loss through the exhaust manifolds and turbine housing, further improving heat up time.

The 2.0GTDi engine produces 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, the same as the similar engine having introduced to Ford S-Max / Galaxy and to be used in new Focus. It is not known yet whether the Ford engine will adopt this feature in the future. In Volvo, first applications will be S80, V70 and XC60. It will replace the 2.5T five-cylinder engine which offers exactly the same power and torque figures but a higher fuel consumption.

just as a rule of thumb, any DI is going to have way better gas mileage than SDI. i wish they would keep the 5 cylinder but use DI.

this engine offers less hp and torque than the T5. the T5 has 227-230 horsepower and 236 pound feet of torque. what a rip off... and this is going to super fail in the tank called S80

I thought Ford sold Volvo to a Chinese company named Geely?

Those numbers aren't particularly impressive enough to warrant the hurrahs IMO.

^^not at all, those numbers suck especially since they have a more powerful engine already.

geely is a bidder for volvo, they havent made the transaction as of yet and geely has said anyway that it will let volvo be volvo and not supply it with engines or parts or designs... for the most part. geely is interested in volvos safety technology, thats what swayed them into the deal mostly.
