WOO HOO!! Go Ford, the Asian market is booming, and you have to consider that half the world lives in China and India combined. I know the Chinese friends I have who live in China are definitely interested in purchasing a vehicle that's not Japanese, and is made in China whether it's a Chinese manufacturer or other country.

they probably sell great, unlike exporting our stuff to a 30% tariff added to the price of the car

I've just read that they'll be building the next generation Focus there for sale globally.

I guess I've just purchased my first and last Ford Focus.

I may have jumped the gun with my earlier comment - some internet sources are saying they'll be building the focus to "sell globally" and some are saying "for consumers there". Does anybody have a definitive answer?

I'm a white collar worker in the automotive parts industry and I purchased the Focus in part BECAUSE it was manufactured in North America.

The all new 2011 Ford Focus will be built at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne (formerly Michigan Truck Plant, currently undergoing transformation/retooling) beginning in the Fall of 2010. The Focus built in China is for China. When Ford says "globally" they are referring to the all new Focus C platform and body going global but manufactured in several regions around the world. This U.S. is not getting Chinese built Focus's. Hope this helps.

Honestly yes - thanks for the clarification. I can go back to enjoying my new car again. :)

Ford should reconsider the wording of their press releases though to avoid this confusion. I've had a number of people mention to me because they interpreted it the same way I did.
