Chrysler says no more paper manuals

So, Chrysler has announced that they will ditch the paper owner manuals, moving to DVD's to provide the information.

As a side note, they say the move will save 20,000 trees worth of paper each year.....if that figure is even close to being true, that's pretty awesome.

I'm sure they are doing this strictly for monetary reasons, but I bet this move will catch on with Ford, GM, etc, in efforts to be (or to appear to be) more environmentally friendly.

I actually like the paperback manuals... but a dvd is cool!

They should put extra info besides operating info like performance specs and stuff, pics and video of some vehicles as well just to make it a little more interactive!

Oh ya... they can lean on the "eco-friendly"

But it's definitely due to saving some serious money!

as neat as that sounds..it might be inconveinent for some people..unless you have a dvd player in your car. often times if i blow a fuse or somthing i can flip open my manual see which ones to look at and kabam.

with that youd have to watch it and study it to understand everyting about your car because if you happen to need it while driving, or in your car, youd be screwed.

my alpine cd player came with the manual on a cd for the computer. ive barley looked at it because id rather flip through a book, in the car, with my radio, while i try out the features.

That sucks, a DVD us useless in a car when your trying to "learn" your new car.

What idiots, they are trying to get the ECO-nuts business at the expense of people who actually DO use their manual.

Yep, me too. I like having a manual in the car and use it all the time. So now i'll have to spend the money printing the stupid DVD. Makes me wonder just how far they have gone to save money in the rest of the car if they're going to be THAT cheap. "Hmm, we can save $.05 single stitching the air bags, and $.07 using a cheaper piston in the master cylinder, and $.02 using a cheaper rollover sensor, etc, etc". Oh well, my dream of everyone being so fed up with cheap cars that cost a fortune causing people to want to buy a steel ingot on wheels with billet everything, a 302 V8, and a T5 tranny from me is almost coming to fruition. Good job Chrysler. I need to make a photoshop pic of my dream car. Well, just imagine a gold bar, but made out of steel, with the entire interior billet steel with black vinyl seats. Horrible gas mileage, but not one single cheap piece of shit in the entire car. Can't break a single thing if you want to.

It's to be expected. Almost every electronics company is moving away from printed manuals. Cars are becoming more and more like rolling electronics now anyway. Have you seen all the stuff that is availble in the new Taurus? Having to keep printing that stuff is tedious. I agree there should be a technical manual for stuff like fuses and general maintenance, but if you need to read the manual to figure out how the assisted parking works, you can probably wait until you get home to look it up.

^^^ Have you tried to do anything with SYNC? That would be a pain not having the manual in the car. Again, the burden of paying for it is put on the customer who just paid $35,000 for that Taurus.
