They have to get stuff up first, and get it too the refineries. At least this will be good news for my workplace.

Take a look at DIG, USO, and DXO when it comes to stocks. All three funds track oil prices and have been going down for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully with this find it will help all our wallets out a little bit!

If we used this much oil per day, in 2007...

Rank Countries Amount Date
# 1 United States: 20,680,000 bbl/day 2007
# 3 China: 7,578,000 bbl/day 2007
# 4 Japan: 5,007,000 bbl/day 2007
# 5 Russia: 2,858,000 bbl/day 2007
# 6 India: 2,722,000 bbl/day 2007
# 7 Germany: 2,456,000 bbl/day 2007
# 8 Brazil: 2,372,000 bbl/day 2007
# 9 Canada: 2,371,000 bbl/day 2007
# 10 Saudi Arabia: 2,311,000 bbl/day 2007
...how long will this...

They might go down for awhile, until a tropical system gets into the gulf. And then they have to clear out the rigs.

It probably won't help any time soon, as the article says:

""It will ease concerns about peak oil because it shows there is life left in these mature areas," he said, adding that it could be the second half of the next decade before the find is producing."

Oil prices will not go down. Supply is dropping. As the supply from this play comes online it will simply replace some of the lost supply. As the oil prices climb, more money will go to those companies instead of states like Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Russia, etc. A redistribution of wealth in the oil industry is all that you'll see.
