Just got my 1st Focus 2001 SE Green Sedan

Love it. This is my first car off a lot so I couldn't get anything newer financed. Prior to this, from 18 to 27- I'd bought anything I had outright. I'm debating right now if I want to work on it- cold air intake, new wheels, stuff like that- or pay off the two year note and get another. For the most part, couldn't I gain the same performance by working on what I have?

By far I love the handling on it more than any other vehicle I've been under the wheel of. Like also not seeing much hood as you look out, if any.

Any advice on modifications and preventative care in general? Great forum, probably read thru 50 threads here already.

If you're going to be looking for some parts always check out the For Sale section on here. You can find some good deals. Welcome to the site though. I'll keep an eye out for any pictures you post.

For performance modifications, search or ask for advice in the forum appropriate for your engine. If you have an SPI, then I'd be searching for an FI solution.

Most common problems are specific to the engines such as the Zetec which burns up fan resistors, and pigtails. SPI's drop exhaust valve seats, but this generally only happens late in the engine's life. Not all engines will have the common problems- just take them as they come is all the advice that can be given.

Welcome to FF !!

Whatever your problems or needs are, I'm sure someone here can help!!

Thanks for the welcomes! I'll get some pix up in a few days as soon as I get my camera back from having loaned it. Nothing done to it yet so not a unique looking ride right now; but definitely want to chronicle it as I make changes so now is a good time to start photographing! And dig it as it too.... Even tho an older Focus, I love it just as much as if I bought one off the lot. I was basically in between cars after a family member wrecked a car of mine I'd just bought, and had planned on getting full coverage on the next month but didn't get it in time. So went to an old Ford LTD 1985 for awhile. A quick pick up for 500 I considered dropping a Mustang motor in and doing some work to (as a matter of interest, along with getting another car), but the tranny work out and I'll probably end up scrapping it. So got a Focus and here I am, liking it so much I'm visiting Focus Forums!

I think my first purchuse for it will be this http://www.jcwhitney.com/Air-Intake-...2035_10101.jcw

I have to admit, I'm not much working on vehicles. But as it works out, my dad's a mechanic so I get a cut rate on work I need done and he's going to help me. Going from an LTD to Focus, I felt like saying Wow the first time I handled a curve. The new car buyer at least got the spoiler, antilock brakes, power-locks and so forth (the options I think it had at the time).

Paying 5,000 for it on a two year note. Just now cracking 100,000 miles but runs soundless. At least til I do some work on it.

Good call on the first mod. K&N is always a solid choice. And yes, the Focus goes around a curve like a freaking sports car. I can't count the number of times I've had one of my friends in my car for the first time and they say something like "wow, this thing handles really great" or "how did you go around that corner so fast?!"
