Post Choosing A Tuner........4 Newbies. Part II

After i wrote the other threat maybe you're asking your self this questions, but no problem, here are some answers to those typical questions:

*What kind of tuner are you looking for???
*Does the tuner know what he's talking about???
*Does the tuner do the work on time???
*Is the tuner easy to go get along with???

Some tuners just sell highi-performance hardware. They know something bout' the speed equipment that they sell and some of them might even install it for you. But they donīt offer custom tuning services such as machining, welding, fabricating and technical advice.

In the early stages of a project (when you're upgrading wheels, tires, susspension, brakes and installing other bolt-on high-performance modifications) one of these tuners might be adequate if you have the mechanical ability and the tools to do your own work. But be realistc about your skills. Some others bolt-on mods are exensive, and could be damaged or ruined, or could damage or ruin something else (like the engine!!!) if incorrectly installed.

Other tuners provide technical help to customers, sell them the stuff that they need to improve their car (FOFO's ) performance, then install it. These tuners can also make any necessary modifications for customers who need help. If your mechanical ability and tools are limited, find a full-service tuner and leave the mail-order emporiums to more mechanically inclined customers.

What your need is someone who can serve as your technical guru and help you can reach your performance goals by doing some or all of the work for you.

Beginners often waste thousands of dollars on inappropiate modifications cause they don't take into consideration how one mod affects another. A "FULL-SERVICE" tuner will make sure that you avoid screw-ups by helping you make good decisions on expensive upgrades that require some planning.

what would be nice is if a thread was made for each region with tuners for that area that way people could pick and choose depending on the work they want to get done

I got a book called haynesxtreme customizing Ford Focus. It goes over choosing a tuner, but.... This is much more simple for some to understand.
