Why not get an older one and save some cash? If you are new, there is a good chance you are going to drop it, if even in the parking lot. That bodywork is VERY expensive to replace.

Yeah, I was too. I can't "not" open up the throttle.

First, you should check how much insurance is. For some, the insurance might be more than your monthly payment for the bike.

Next, yeah, you can get something a little different and save serious money and maybe insurance. SV1000S, something used, etc.

I had an 05 Katana 600 as my first bike, which I didn't get until I was 20. Most people were telling me that it wasn't a good bike, wasn't fast, w/e etc etc. All these reasons as to why I shouldn't buy it. I had to sell it b/c it was too fast for me, it was too new and I scared the living daylights out of myself on it. And if I ever get another bike it will probably be a mid 90s model, one that I can pay $800 for and not care if I lay it down once or twice. Also, I want something easy to learn on, something I can easily get my license on.

My parents vetoed that idea when I was 18. Got a ninja zx6 at 21. I know I became a lot more responsible over those 3 years, and was glad my parents said no back then. Over those years, I got to know my buddy's dirt bike pretty well. I would suggest a learner bike for one season. I know a 600 is considered a smaller sports bike, but without experience, it has more power then you'll know what to do with. Either way, gear up!

Excellent point here. We had some kid at work here that got a sport bike and his insurance company wouldn't even insure him. He has to have two differnt places for insurance (car/bike). It's not that it's that much of a big deal, but his bike costs him more than his car does (insurance wise).
