2009 Euro Focus RS!

No news if its AWD or FWD, but 280hp sounds good. Maybe in 2010 we will get it too :)

keep dreaming. Ford NA are losers.
That car is a Mustang killer, and you know they cant have that

if anything Ford UK builds is closely competitive to the mustang you will never see it in the states.
this is why the Mustang isnt even available over there. it would get stomped

did you know they have a convertible Focus in the UK?

its does sound like a very great car.

it stuff like this that make me wish Ford would just die. Sad how they cater to the rest of the world and make all the people from home eat the piles of crap they keep punping out... Owned a beater 73 mavric, 500$ what a deal. Bought my fofo new, and this WILL be the last ford ever that i have on my key ring. back to acura and BMW I go.

You know, Ford actually tried to go modern and get with the times by making a hot hatch out of the Mustang in the '80s. The Ford Probe was originally intended to be the replacement for the Fox body Mustang in 89. A letter writing campaign ensured that the Ford Fairmont underpinned Mustang soldiered on (albeit with some revisions in 94) until 2004. Unfortunately, some "Mustangs have to be v8 muscle cars, not competitive sporty cars that go with the times" people gave Ford a hard time, and the car has remained in rwd v8 hell. As long as those loyalists are there - the car will never evolve, and Ford NA will never make something that outperforms it here.

The hobbled Taurus SHO and SVT Contour are evidence of this. (both cars were great, but could have been even better) Frankly, I'd like a hot hatch alternative to the Mustang. Hell, Ford doesn't even have to sell it in Ford showrooms - sell it as a Mercury, but actually provide it with more than three months of print and tv ads (like the ill fated 99-03 Cougar).

I look at the Ford Probe as Ford seeing what the compact sports segment had become and said "let's modernize the Mustang while making it what it was originally - something ordinary, but sporty". Back then, the Prelude, Integra, Celica, Corolla, GTI, and what not were all the rage - Ford saw those as that generations competitors to what the Mustang's original mission was.

I see 1989 as when the Mustang abandoned it's original purpose, and became what it is today - a car that doesn't fill the mission that the original was meant for back in 1964.

What Ford needs to do is bring us a Focus ST from europe, and then move the Mustang up scale. Give it 400hp, and price it at 35k or so (along with IRS). This would make plenty of room for a fast Focus. GM does this buy having the corevette priced way high, the Camaro will be in the 35-40k range, and the 20-30 range is their SS versions of the 4 bangers. Dodge does the same.
