My SVT is being replaced!

Shortly after my SVT failed inspection (due to o2 sensors, dead horn, p1000, etc) I re-evaluated what I wanted to do with it. At 127K, it has been feeling a bit old and alot of other maintenance items are coming up soon- clutch, all brakes, shocks/struts, Audiophile died, etc. I started looking around at other cars and I am scheduled to take delivery of my 'new' car on Wednesday!

Man, what's up with everyone selling their cars? Anyway, I dislike the fusions for asthetic reasons, but good luck with your ventures. For the love of all that is holy...please tell us that it's all wheel drive.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Fusion...but until Ford builds one with a V6 and three pedals I'm not interested. Yeah, they have the 2.3 with a five speed but in a car that big you almost need the extra two cylinders.

Although I'm going to say you should've held out for a year or two when the Fusion and the Mondeo will be a shared-platform car...

Fusions weigh over 3000lbs and have 221HP stock. AWD makes little sense to me except for in the winter where the heavy weight of the car still holds out well even being just FWD. So in a single word- No. It is FWD.

The AWD models also get worse millage. This car will get better millage and also doesn't need premium fuel vs my SVT. I was impressed with the way it drives and it handled bumps really nicely without being a boat. It also has plenty of power for my driving habbits. My need for speed is currently satisfied with my Kawi which smokes the SVT all day long. Heated seats, more room, and better safety features have always been something I have been longing for.

Ska- I'd love to see the Euro mondeo make it over here. When are they bringing it over? I might get one in a few years if the new one is as good as the current Euro...

Edit: There have also been other rumors of the Twin Force V6 being put into the AWD Fusion. Now THAT would be something to see!

There's been a lot of talk out of Ford recently that by 2010 they're going to shoot for most of their vehicles to be based on global platforms to cut costs. And the Fusion is slated for a 2009/2010 facelift anyways...

Personally, I disagree with it making little sense to be all wheel drive, but who am I to say. I don't have a fusion.

Well the 2WD Fusions do very well in the snow. THe AWD versions obviously do better but the times where your going to be saved by the AWD is going to be few and far between. The AWD system adds alot of weight and taxable loases to the drivetrain, too. To me, it isn't worth it. If the Fusions had 260+HP, then I think I'd agree with you though...

Well...to weigh in on the AWD debate, unless you're using it its not going to add parasitic drag any further than the added weight. Ford (and its subsidiaries) have a nasty habit of using a Haldex AWD system that basically operates as FWD until they slip and then a slip-sensing differential sends power to the rear wheels in direct proportion to the amount of slip being experienced in front. Not really performance oriented...performance cars that have an asymmetric AWD system work the opposite way; RWD until they slip and then biasing power to the front.

So the statement that its not terribly practical to have stands...the only times you'll use it are in heavy snow or heavy rain. The rest of the time its extra weight to haul around and an extra however many thousand dollars on the loan.
