Question About Gas...sti, Evo, Srt-4???

I know the SVTF is suppose to run on premium only, correct?

I was just curious if WRX STI, EVO, and SRT-4 were only suppose to run on premium?

The reason I ask is becuase I was at a local Hess station 2 nights ago filling up the ol' SE and some punk in a STI is sittig there rappin on his cell phone. His car was nice, so I couldn't help but admire. While admiring, i noticed him hang up the regular 87 octan nozzel! I just thought it kind of odd he spent so much money on a car, which seemd to be mildly modded as well...and then he would pump regular gas into it.

Hence my question....Are STI and EVOs and other "high-performance" 4 bangers suppose to be filled with premium nly, or will they perform if maintained with regular?

so this douche was being cheap and will probably shave years of reliability off his nice ride.....what an asshat. You shouldn't bother buying a car like that if you cant afford to take care of it correctly.

definatly wants premium, itll still run with regualar, but will be crippled because of it. you really should run premium in any turbocharged car

haha i thought the same thing for a minute. But in this section of the city i was in there arent too many "spoiled rich kids" lol could have very wekk been from a different area though.

I thought that any turbo car should probably need the ultimate care and best fuel. which leads to me to my next question. why does the SVFT run premium.. do other "performance" 4 bangers that are non turbo/SC require premium? i.e. civic SI?

^Yes the Si requires premium. It's not really that much of a difference money wise to use premium over 87. My Si even has a sticker on the fuel lid that says 'Premium fuel required'. I would think the SRT-4, STi & the Evo would have one as well?

The SVTF runs premium because of the compression ratio that the pistons have and the computer settings that control the engine. Higher compression ratio+advanced timing=more power, but also needs higher octane to resist detonation. Similar thing with a turbo car.
