to winterize or not to winterize?

Hey guys, I just dont know what to do! Im debating on drivin my focus for the winter here or not. If i decide to, I will need to get a set of steel rims and winter tires (700 canadian) and possibly take my body kit off. The reason i dont really want to drive it through the winter (besides spending more money)is the fact that they use a combination of sand and salt on the roads!! as you know that can start some nasty rust and also lots of chips! Now my other option is to run my 91 explorer. Its not in the best shape....somtimes hard to start when cold...and has 314,000 kms on it! The tires are all seasons....4x4 works..and brakes are ok. I live out of town and i need a reliable vehicle to get me and my girl to work. Its worse on gas and isnt going to be as reliable as the focus. What should i do?

I live in the northeast US, we have salt/sand on the roads here all winter. Yes, it does do quite a bit of harm on your exposed steel bolts, subframe, etc. However the car does quite well in general. Snow, ice, slush, whatever - its capable with a good set of snow tires.

Being that you have a bodykit AND you have an explorer availible, id say its a no brainer. Drive the explorer and you can always take the focus out on nicer days.

Ya...well i wont have both vehicles insured though. The X is also cheaper on insurance. I will just put storage insurance on the focus. I guess I can just drive the X untill somthin goes on it...and who knows mabey im just over reacting and it will be fine!

If ur worried about rust accumulated from the ground because it snows where ur at, better chance is to get a car for winter if U don't want to convert ur focus as a winter car.
