Cool new On-star feature

Really cool new onstar feature. Not sure if anyone else has heard about it. Watch this vid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e_ZeYy3qjs

Hopefully this isnt the beginning of the loss of our freedom on the road. Anyone see Minority Report, where all of the cars are automatic and can be stopped, turned around or made go in another direction by satellite lol.

Seriously i think this is a good feature. Hopefully it proves to be effective

Scary how much the government is getting control. I NEVER want ANYONE ELSE in control of my car besides ME! So screw that, what happens if someone hacks the system? all those cars get shut down in the middle of the road.

i dont think so.

that could probably actually work. All theyd have to do is keep the car in one gear and redline the engine....by by engine.

Just by a manual transmission car and you won't have to deal with this lol.

IMO i can't think of a good enough reason to buy a Ford product other then a Mustang either lol.

Off topic....your car looks sick auto, I'd love to own a focus that looks like that....black is the best color ever.

that's dumb...
the onstar GPS tracking system already has the potential to prevent high speed chases from the beginning...

just track the damn car with the GPS, let the felon go about his business thinking he isn't being followed, and as soon as he makes a quick gas stop or whatever... arrest him. ta-da!!!

btw, I witnessed a high speed chase here in Atlanta the other day, it was freaking awesome. this dude in a white cherokee flew by me doing like 100 on the interstate, and behind him like 10 police cars. and about 1/4 mile ahead of me he spun out and was caught. I never saw anything on the news though.

here's the pic I took with my phone (yeah, I had front row seats to the whole show)

That's kinda crazy. I would not buy a vehicle that could be controlled like that. Just another reason why my next car will be from a foreign car manufacturer.

I can easily see the government mandating GPS tracking systems in all vehicles someday...they already have a similar system in some European countries where the computer monitors the car's position via GPS and compares that with a map with speed limit data and keeps the car within a certain threshold of the speed limit. I don't think its required over there but the technology does exist...although I don't think police departments would stand for speed prevention...odds are here we'd have a system where the car monitors speed, and when the driver exceeds the speedlimit it would just send data to the highway partrol or local PD and you'd get a ticket in the mail. Speed enforcement is far too lucrative in terms of revenue generation for the police to allow a system to be implemented that would stop speeding completely.
