Is the 05-07 Focus the 2nd generation or 1.5??

I was wondering.I know that the 00-04 is the true first generation Focus. Is the 05-07 the second generation and the 08 the 3rd generation or just the 1.5 generation and the 08 the 2nd.

Tim

I would say that the 04-08 focus are all first generation with the distinction that 00-04 rev. A, 05-07 rev. B, and 08+ rev. C

I would say 00-04 is the first generation the 05-07 could be considered a 2nd gen. since the nose and tail redesign, new dash, and new engine family. I'd consider the 08 to be 3rd generation due to the fact that all of the sheetmetal and interior is new (even though it's still using the same platform).

My opinion is based off the 3 Taurus SHO generations... 89-91(?) being the first, 92-95 being the second (both had the same platform & engine, but different exterior)... the 3rd being the weird ovoid design w/ a V8.

You're all wrong, the 00-04 Focus is a 4th Generation Escort, lol, just playing, though, technically true.

But on a serious note, the 00-04 is Gen 1, 05-07 is Gen 2, and 08+ will be Gen 3, as per Ford saying so. The Generation difference is typically determined by drastic changed, i.e. engine and body remakes.

And yes, you could argue there was a Gen 1.5, but not with the 05-07 being that, it was when the Focus went from the SPI to Zetec engine, then there's the PLEV duratec in the 04s, but we can ignore those since they weren't the common engine.

But there wasn't a transition from SPI to zetec on the focus. The SPI and Zetec powered Foci were around up until 2004 when the 05 refresh came. Since the PZEV duratecs initially showed up in 03, I would only consider the changes in 05 to be purely cosmetic with the deletion of the SPI and Zetec motors.

Considering that the 05 refresh consisted of a new dashoard, front bumper, fenders, grill, headlights, and the duratecs were standard across the line - I wouldn't really count it as a new generation. The sedan received new tail lamps and trunk lid, while the rest of the line was exactly the same from the A-pillar back. Look at an 02 zx3 and an 07 zx3 - you're not going to notice much difference save for the dash and the front.

I would say that the 08+ models would be more legitimate as a 2nd generation focus as the change was more dramatic. - Very little of the 08 refresh resembles the 00-07 foci. For my determination of generation - look into the 1979-1993 third generation Ford Mustang - it saw similar changes during it's 14 year production run as the focus has and all of those variants are considered to be one generation. Here's the wiki on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mu...2.80.931993.29

IMO 00-04 was 1st gen, 05-07 2nd gen, 08 3rd gen.

I see it as when the body style changes, thats a new generation.

iantm, I'm just going off the idea that 05-07 parts will not work with 00-04 parts, making them different, lets say, a "New Generation".

Yeah i agree since part crossover has been an issue in between 00-04(GEN1) and 05-07(GEN2) and 08 being GEN3 because i dont wanna be in the same generation as that focus

You need to define "generation".

I view generation as being a total new redesign, like the Golfs. If that's the case, they are still on the first generation, with changing motors and aesthetic changes.
