The SPI motors are the basic single cam four cylinders that come in the sedans. They're called SPI (Split Port Injection) because they only use two injectors for four cylinders instead of four injectors for four cylinders.

The duratec also comes in a 2.3 as well as a 2.0. Don't forget about the svt motor, its a suped up version of the zetec.

You're in NC, close to Focus-Power. Why do the wimpy stuff when you can save up for a super turbo motor? I wish I lived close to Tom's shop!!!

The full length header might be a bit too much anyway. There are shorty headers made for Zetec motors if that's what you have. If you have an SPI, then the options are completely different and an SVT header wouldn't work on your motor anyway.

Changing from SPI to Zetec or either one to Duratec would require a wrecked car to get all the parts needed. This would be an extremely difficult project. If you have an SPI, then check out the SPI forum for discussions on SPI performance. Personally, if I had an SPI, I'd save my money for a Focus with a motor that responds better to mods. By the time you spent $1000 on wheels and tires, $1000 on motor mods, and $1000 on body parts- you could've bought an already modified Zetec and sold the SPI for extra money.

Well, Turbo Tom has his own Forum on here. The shop is located in the Charlotte area. I think he is also still producing 2.3L Zetec blocks built for FI. None of this stuff is cheap, but it's worthwhile if you're serious about real performance.

I wouldn't purchase anything without thinking about the end result- for example, a header is a waste of money if you plan on upgrading to a turbo some day. The same goes for CAI's since a turbo kit would replace the existing CAI. There are a lot of options available for Zetecs, so be sure to do a good amount of research to find out what will work best for you.

best of luck!!
