They are a reliable car as long as its been maintained well. BTW it's zetec not ztec. You can check the zetec forum for TSBs and Recalls on that year car. We also have a member on here(Mike aka b16sir1991) who can get you an Oasis report if you send him the vin #. That tells what recalls, tsbs and warranty work that has been performed on that particular car.

Welcome to FF. I think you should be fine with that car for that price. You realize that us here all own Focus' (well 99.9% of us). I love my 2003 that I have. I've had minor things go for a 4 year old car. I had to replace the ignition cylinder (very common problem) and my heater core. Everyone has their opinions about cars and after driving my car for the first time, I felt that it is one great car.

Thumbs up

My older brother loves his ZTS Focus. I think it's a 2002 model as well. No real probs. I think the dealer had to redo the brakes and wheel bearings (they were doing the brakes so why not the bearings also mentality) on warranty. That was when it was new. He has the Zetec engine and loves the little monster. We have a ZX2 (Escort chassis coupe) and it has over 150K on it. It needs a clutch soon and has had the idler pulley bracket on the engine break a couple or three times. I guess there is something with every car, but that's the worst I can come up with on the engines and or the Focus chassis.

You could do a Oasis report, that is only a mechanical history. The Carfax does a history of the insurance and warranty claims, plus registration. I'd spend the money to find out. It's cheaper than a roll of the dice IMHO.

agreed, the more miles on the car, the more miles you have no idea what the previous owner was doing to it.

I wouldn't go for it, 4,000 sounds kind of high for a 4 year old car with that many miles. I got an 00 zx3 in 04 with 40k miles for about the same price. I have a feeling that you could get a better deal on a better focus if you look some more.
