Who supplies who

K, so over on one of the groups on myspace a little debate has started and I want to know if I'm right or not so I decided to come ask the greatest forum of all, FF. Okay so my question is, did Mazda supply ford with the 2.0 zetec and the 2.0/2.3 duratec engines? I think they did because I had a 96 mazda 626 with a rebadged 2.0 zetec looking engine in it. I mean, the valve cover wasn't the same but it looked just like an engine from a ZX2. And I believe Mazda had the 2.3 duratec in their truck before ford did. And I know the mid 90's styling of the ranger came from mazda. So if I'm wrong can someone clear me up on this.

considering ford owns 60% of mazda... id kinda say the other way around. But, i could be wrong. Both companies share technology and parts on vehicles.

Co-Developed, but most likely it was ford that put up most of the $$$.

The only that belongs to Ford in the duratec line is its aluminum engine block everything else is Mazdas. That is my understanding.

Thumbs up

Zetec is the Ford name for a European engine line. The 2.0 dual cammer is a European Ford engine, at least it's basics are Ford. The Block and head. They were "redesigned" for the USA by: Mazda! More like the externals were re-engineered. Water Pumps and such. I think that is why the 2.0 in the ZX2 has crappy idler pulley bracket castings that break so often. They should have left those alone and utilized the Euro version. Just my $.02.
