2.3 Duratec or 2.0 ZETEC

the 2.3 has more power out of the box, and gets good numbers with turbo

zetec has a ton of aftermarket parts, 2.3 has only 1 or 2 turbo options

ohhhhhhhhh

uh oh...not another SVT vs. 2.3 thread!!! If you run a search, this topic has been beaten harder than rodney king!!

anyways, the 2.3 liter is much easier to drive on a daily basis and feels faster...however it will not pull as hard after about 80 MPH. once you get to 80, the top end on the STOCK SVT will pull away without a problem. The 2.3 has more torque and it makes that torque from VERY LOW in the RPM range, which means you can climb hills in third gear at like 2000 RPMs. The SVT makes more horsepower but a little bit less torque, and it makes most of its torque after about 3500 RPMs, so you will find yourself in a lower gear when climbing hills. HOWEVER, a tune for about 380 will make the SVT faster than a 2.3. I used to own a 2.3 and I raced an SVT one time, we were dead even....but we only raced to about 60. BUT....the reason this topic gets out of hand is because arguments come up about the quality of the VEHICLE..SVT vs. ZX3 there is no contest, the SVT is a nicer car because it is a higher end focus.

BUT....If you were to compare motor vs. motor, I'de say that the 2.3 is probably a better motor. It is newer, it is better technology and it responds very well to a cold air intake, exhaust and header. With those three modifications, a 2.3 will burn an SVT with similar amounts of money put into it.

SVT focus would probably have more power out of the box, but short of turbo or SC theres not a whole lot left you could do with it. Duratec on the other hand will only have a 20hp disadvantage but you'll probably cover that with intake and exhaust.

Wouldn't the insurance for the ST be cheaper though? Not sure if it would be enough to off set anything though.

I do miss the torque. But if I had my ZX3 I'de miss the horsepower of the SVT.
