84 exp turbo escort for $1,000 bucks

Hey guys, a guy that I know (fellow SVTF owner in my area) offered to sell me his project 84 exp turbo for a grand. He punched out the engine .002 over and rebuilt the turbo about 15k miles ago. He also stated that he had the engine internals ballanced when he did this. He has all kinds of spares that go with the car, including another engine with turbo! The chasis has 160k odo miles on it. I am well aware that this is a great deal. He said that the car is in great shape other than a little rust on the hatch, some new sheet metal can fix that.

What I really want to know is, can I take the turbo components off of the spare engine and adapt it to my SVT? Or if it can be done, is it even worth it?

I'm def picking this car up because it itself is in good shape and close to being finished. It pretty much only needs cosmetic stuff now..sheet metal, body work, paint, minor interior stuff. I've seen a lot of aftermarket parts available for this platform on the internet. I'm thinking that this car would be a good AWD project for me.

FEEDBACK FEEDBACK FEEDBACK!!!!! Tell me what you guys think of this???

I've done a little more searching. It seams that these EXPs are two seaters only. The turbo puts out 8lbs of boost. I'm trying right now to find a wide body kit for it. I've also found a AWD tempo for donor drive line parts!!! Yeah, I'm excited!!!

The donor that I found is a 91. From what I understand, I could drop that extra motor right into the tempo. The block will bolt right up to it's MTX75. I don't know about motor mounts, but that's why I have welders and torches. Hmmmm. and AWD turbocharged Tempo? That sounds kinda fun too.

I'm still thinking that I could somehow use that extra turbo on my SVT. I know I would have to get all the plumbing, but that's no big deal. The ideas are going crazy in my head right now.

the best idea is to sell it to me cheap.

and if you get that escort engine to bolt up to an MTX 75 let me know because I don't think it has been done before.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the turbo on the EXP's were pretty small...it may not be efficient enough for the SVT motor.

The MTX 75 was first introduced in the escort MK IV family. On the other hand, your're still kind of right, that engine won't bolt up to the tempo....Damn!!! I could have swore that i read that the EXP that I'm getting had a MTX 75, but no I was wrong. It has a MTX III, 5 speed that I can swap out for a MTX IV from an early SHO.

Sell you the extra motor? Well, I'll think about it.

I don't have any pics yet. I'm going to go see the car in person for the first time next weekend. I've known the guy that has it for a long time. He's 67 and loves to race and build small cars that scream. He also owns a 03 SVTF 5dr and loves giving it hell. He's only selling me the car cause he's too busy with IRL and travels a LOT! He said that he just doesn't have the time or extra energy to finish it. Also part of the purchase agreement is that he gets to take it for a spin as soon as I have it done. I happily agreed!
