Good find Tom, i really thought the HP numbers would have been higher on the GTi than they are.

^ Not sure that was the point of the post. At any rate, both agree and disagree; Honda seems to use that Vtec point as marketing as much as engineering, they want you to feel it. First thing a half-decent Hondata tune does is find a smooth vtec crossover.

I'm surprised the GTI didn't dyno higher. I dont know much about VW, I dont suppose they have a history of underselling their engines. I also expected more out of the MS3 honestly, if they really do spin, what, 264bhp, thats a crapload of parasitic loss. Almost more likely its a bad tank of gas?

In that sense, I'm impressed the K20, inside its powerband, is as close as it is to the forced induction competition.

Its "close" (if you count a 36 HP difference on I-4 engines as close) only in HP, and only because it spins up to 8,000 RPMs off the lot. I really don't see how the Si can even be put in the same category as the MS3...the MS3 makes over 100 ft-lbs of torque more than the Si. In real world terms (not just saying "oooo VTEC gives the Si 40 more HP") the MS3 would eat the Si alive with that big of a torque advantage. Everyone makes light of torque numbers like its not important unless you're towing a trailer, but what everyone doesn't realize is that torque is what gets you up to speed, horsepower keeps you there. Torque is what pushes you back in your seat on a hard launch and rocks the car backwards on its suspension, not HP. Not to mention, the MS3 has a wide, flat, usable mid-range powerband...its making its optimal power when the Si is still in the sub-120 WHP/TQ range. Like I've said time and time again, the Si has to rev to 8000+ RPMs, because if it didn't the car would only make out with a lower than 150 WHP (and even less torque) powerband.

Put a Si up against a MS3, and all the Si driver is going to see is the 3's tail lights.

yeah, from 264 to 216 is a pathetic drivetrain loss...especially for a FWD car with a LSD.

And you're right Robzor, I was pointing out my preference which is not exactly the fastest of the three, just the one I'de want the most if I were "given" a choice.

I don't either!! But somehower, the MS3 does 0 to 60 in 6.0 and the SI does it in like 6.3 or something. It's a driver's race and it really shouldn't be!

EDITED: I forgot the 'weight' variable
