Panda Power!

Hey all, I've been kicking around the forums for long enough I figured it was time to share my car and what I've done/am planning to do! First, for introductions. I'm Tim and I've got a 2012 SEL hatch in Oxford White. I bought it in February of this year with 56k on the clock. This car kinda fell in to my lap; I was looking for something utilitarian, economical, and able to accommodate my family while still being something fun for me to drive. I got it for a great deal at the end of the month when the dealer was looking to make a quick sale. I've loved this thing every minute so far and I'm really excited about where it's going to go! Current project list is as follows:
  • Stereo (DONE)
  • Zetec front grill
  • Snorkel Delete (DONE)
  • Ford Racing ST Intake Scoop + K&N Filter
  • Ford Racing Lowering Springs
  • 17" Sparco Azetto Gara in White (looks great and they're on clearance)
  • Exhaust of some kind
  • Tune
  • ST-ish style rear spoiler (love the vents)

So without further ado, here she is the day I brought her home.

The very first thing I've always done with new cars is go straight to the stereo and this one is no exception. Following DoogieB's upgrade, I amped the factory head unit, added Infinity Kappa speakers all the way around, and added sound dampening for the doors. I didn't go crazy with the sound dampening b/c I've honestly been very impressed with how well the car is insulated from the factory so I was more looking for vibration reduction to make sure nothing was rattling by the time I got to installing the subwoofer.

I just installed my amp and subwoofer yesterday and tomorrow my buddy is coming over to help me build the proper enclosure. After seeing ideas around the internet, I decided that I'm going to build an enclosure that replaces the floor of the hatch and surrounds the spare tire. This way I'm not sacrificing much cargo space, and nothing will be in the way when loading the hatch. As well, there won't be any obstructions to the spare tire so that will be fully accessible along with some added storage compartments below the floor.

Thanks for reading and to part, here's the inspiration for the Panda Power! name. Since I got a white car, I started thinking of color schemes and how make something cohesive instead of just random looking bits of white and black. I got bored with some plasti-dip one day and went ahead and did the foglight bezels and grill, but then had this idea, kind of like an ear, IMO.

Basically the idea is to balance the white and black so the car looks similar to a panda. Might be cheesy but that's how I roll #dadlife.

Lol, I didn't get notifications that people were actually commenting on my thread.

Anyway, finally got my stereo system completed by designing and build a custom subwoofer enclosure that encompasses the spare tire in the hatch. This way I'm not sacrificing any hatch space for the sake of sound.

Layout:

Glued & Screwed

Carpet:

Complete!

The box weighs in at just over 1.1 cu. ft. and is tuned at about 45 Hz. I've got a single Rockford Fosgate p3 shallow mount subwoofer connected to a Fosgate p300x1 amplifier. It's not in the original pics but I have since acquired a Rockford 3sixty line driver and it makes this thing absolutely sing.

Thanks, I thought so! I found a thread on another forum where someone did something similar and had a friend help me with the math to get the angles and volume right. Since my car is a family wagon, I wanted it to be functional even after upgrading the stereo.
