New Project: SVT header (56K change your oil)
Hey everyone, just giving an update on some things I am doing and plan on doing. I recently bought the SVT Header Kit + RT Highflow cat USED from a guy on here who bought it from McNews. It has about 4K on it and was in very nice shape when I got it. The plan is since Jet Hot is expensive and in my opinion not really worth the money, that the header will get a few coats of rust resistant, high temp (800 degrees constant) and then header wrap. Now I know what most of you will say. "header wrap causes moisture and leads to rust." It might be true, but my dad has wrap on his exhaust on his 03 Cobra and has had no problems, the stuff works. The coating for rust resistant will help if any moisture is absorbed into the wrap. It will just keep under hood temps down and give a scavenging effect on the motor.

Currently, I have the paint done on the header. Sanded her down with 400 grit as zx34me reccomended on metal, cleaned her with some very abrasive metal cleaner that evaporates super fast, and gave her 6 light coats of the high temp, rust resistant paint in flat black. Looks trick, but it will soon be covered by header wrap [:D] Once I have this done and a flex-pipe, it will all go on, hopefully smoothly, and give me some more power (and prolly noise) [;)]

If you painted that, you sure did a nice job. It looks basically brand new and of course BadAss.[thumb]

oo jon that looks real nice

lol...yup I did, about 3 hours ago, the paint is a fast dry paint. It was actually my first paint job on anything that I actually was tentative about (you know making sure I spray lightly and wait a certain amount of time between coats). Turned out great, too bad it will be covered up[:(] Thanks for the comment though!

Thanks Aaron! and you know how much of a pain it is to paint the in-between areas? It wasn't hard to move around it though and get under it. I went outside, hung it by a hanger from a tree branch[;)]

anyone have any personal experience on how long just high temp paint could last on a header...cuz that looks awesome

Kicknzx3 08-30-2005 09:50 PM

depends on how many coats, the type you purchase and if u actually bake it

kenpokid 08-30-2005 09:53 PM

I didnt bake it, forgot about that trick. It was left in the sun though for a bit to dry, close enuff I guess lol[:p] I did however use a lot of coats 6-7 I think, so it should hold up for a while, we shall see.
