Homey's 2.3 ZX3 Build!

So it begins...!

I bought my car about 5 years ago knowing nothing about Ford Focus's. I needed something to commute to work and I wanted a hatchback. Originally I wanted a Honda because of reliability, gas mileage and quality. I started looking at those and they were overpriced pieces of crap! Every one of them were beaters and I couldn't figure out why they were so expensive.

So I started looking at other options. My wife found a couple Focus's and they started catching my eye. They were a little "awkward" and I thought they were a little "immature" with the funny interior and a few other details. I did notice that they were much nicer that the Civic's I was looking at though.

After looking at a couple of them I decided on a Silver 2.3 ZX3 with 54,000 miles! Cool! I got a nice commuter car that I can take care of without a mechanic or a dealer and I'm only out $5k!

I drove it stock for about 3 years until I started reading FF ! I got about $1k to spend on my car and decided on a few good mods (BSD, FRPP springs/shocks, stress bars and a used Cosworth CAI). Suddenly the car was a lot of fun to drive! I had no idea what I had for $6k and I was hooked! I was really surprised that people actually knew what king of car I had too. I got lots of complements on my car from many unlikely people. My wife even enjoyed driving it!

Fast forward to a last month...

Driving through downtown Forest Mississippi at lunch (relocated from Orange County California BTW) I nearly missed hitting a deer that darted right out in front of my car. Sweet, missed that one but looked to the left and anothe one was headed for my door downshifted and sped off to get away from that disaster! Fast forward to the next week...Holy hail storm! My wife calls on the way home from work and says the weather is REALLY bad. Sky is GREEN and not like anything I have ever seen in California. Not 3 minutes after she calls it starts to hail. I'm thinking no big deal. Passed under a bridge and went about 1/4 mile down the road before I had to stop. The hail was golf ball sized! Sounded like there were 10 people beating my car with baseball bats . Luckily I had no broken windows and I was safe. My hood and roof were not so lucky...$2k worth of damage!

So here is where the mods begin again!

List of planned mods:
1. Roush 17x7 white wheels
2. Crower stage 1 cams
3. SCT tune from Tom
4. New headlights, fog lights (stock)
5. New front bumper and hood (stock)
6. 3m 1080 matte silver vinyl that I plan to do myself and doccument

A little bit. It added 1 quart of oil and made no difference in vibration. I also did new motor mounts at the same time.

Forgot to mention that I also just bought a 2.5" exhaust with a Borla muffler that I installed last month before the hail storm...

BSD = Ballance Shaft Delete. The 2.3 Duratec is the only motor with a Ballance Shaft. It puts a weight on the crank to help reduce engine vibrations.
