I'd never get stripes straight enough to try it but I have considered doing the roof in black.
Today I finally got around to giving the car a good wash and minor detail til next month's spring clay bar job, seal and wax. Still need to get my ST spoiler and mid wing painted but other things keep popping up.
i need to get an exhaust so i dont feel ashamed of the rear end and its limp penis exhaust lol. Ive been thinking of sawing the muffler off where the exhaust will still point down just past the rear axle...anyone know if thats safe to run or will fumes be an issue
There isn't a housing involved. It's some pipes and some hoses and a cheap filter. The MAF housing is the stock piece in their pictures.
The entire system looks kind of hokey and like something pieced together from exhaust pipes and silicone rubber hoses, but it likely won't hurt the car too badly.
Well it's not really garbage. Im sure it is the same as an injen tbh. It doesn't look horrible thats for sure. But its not a k&n typhoon nor fs werks either.
So in my spare time I like to do stuff in MS Paint and I thought I'd share with you mk3 owners. I did some mk2 images a while back that were in a little different style, but I"m pretty pleased with how these came out. I'm working on more and when I've got them finished I'll post them here.
Enjoy.
Feel free to right/click-save and do whatever you want with them.
I feel like all intakes are pretty much the same. It might not be made out of quility materials like a K&N or Injen but the performance numbers should be the same.
Iirc, the Typhoon and FSWerks are the only two intakes that reuse the MAF housing. I know for sure that both the Steeda and Injen have their own-design housings, and if the AEM doesn't then it relocates OEM.
I do not run the Newmission mod at all. I do too much in-town driving and ram air isn't effective until you reach speeds that cause a higher pressure on the intake tract than the low-pressure created by the pistons (without doing actual math, I'm sure this is over 50mph). All it did for me was kill my fuel mileage and the only people that it will really benefit are the ones that do a lot of steady-state driving. Most of the year I run the snorkel-delete/drop-in due to the loss in low end torque, not because of heat soak (though the Steeda is currently installed for shows and may not come out this year until show season is over).
Newmission on the Steeda is pretty much worthless due to the open-filter design. This holds true for the lower tract as well. The majority of the air it consumes will come from around the headlight. All it will really due is cause a turbulence directly in front of the MAF housing, which is the last place you would want it.
Only the AEM, snorkel-delete/drop-in, and OEM intakes are 'true' cold air. With that being said, the Steeda and Typhoon will both experience much less heat-soak and be drawing ambient or near ambient temperature air within a few feet of movement due to their heat shields.
With all of that being said, I agree with 4mikebruns-this intake is junk. I wasn't going to say anything due to the fact that it isn't my money to spend, but he would be much better served with spending a little less and doing the snorkel-delete/drop-in or saving the money to applying it to an intake designed for the Mk3. I don't know why I'm saying this, but even the cheap universal setup from most auto-parts stores would be more cost-effective (though still crap). I'm sure this would show a gain if dynoed simply for the fact that the Mk3 is very receptive to opening the intake tract, but the possibility of future damage is much too high to make it a legitimate option. Like everyone has said, just replacing the junk filter will put the intake into triple-digit cost that could have been spent towards an actual intake, and that's not including possible MAF damage due to over-tightening or excessive vibrations due to the possible lack of support.
Cancel the order. Save your money and engine longevity by putting that money towards something better and safer for the vehicle. Wait out the BST section for a deal on an intake if the new cost is too high, but don't install what you ordered.
No! Lol that's still a worse intake than a snorkel delete. Fswerks is cheaper and has better heat shielding. You really won't regret running an open ended Cobb or green filter for 50 bucks and perform the snorkel delete. You'll have some sound and it'll run good. For 200 bucks you can get the roush intake which is basically a k&n filter with a new lid that is open on the top but seals against the hood so you get sound again but keep the OEM cold air effect. The extra money only let's you say you have a roush product tho. Lol
