To Tune or Not to Tune? That is the question,

I am happy with my 08 SE, reliable, fun to drive; but have wondered if getting a tuner device would add any noticeable performance. And part two - I have never seen this discussed: does tuning for more torque or performance have an effect on the durability of the drive train? I'm sure there is a simple answer but I am not a real mechanic so I do not know if the CV or drive components would wear out more quickly if exposed to more power. Any ideas? Thanks!

Not enough added power with small mods to have an effect on durability.

Tune is best if you're adding more later that it can work with, or it makes a change you want now.

Automatics can get firmer shifting, sportier and LESS wear on the unit.

Higher RPM/speed limiters possible, "rev hang" reduction for both trannies (slow down sooner after taking your foot off the gas).

You must not be talking about tuning with SCT.

My revs drop quite a bit faster after my SCT tune....as well as speed limiter removed and rpm limited upped.

Are you running a canned tune or Tom's? Last I heard, as of about 2 days ago, SCT didn't have a fix for this.

The OP has an '08, mentioned in his initial post as well as in his information section (that might not be visible with phone access).

MkIII tuning is different in terms of what's currently avail. for various cars, RPM limit changes aren't avail. for all "strategies" and full control of "rev hang" is an item not avail. yet either.
