Glad you're happy with your results to date, remember my first new car that had base timing set to "Zero" for emissions - tweaking that & testing with back road speed runs was the first "tuning" I ever did on a car.

Reading about leaning it out yielding a nice power increase is scary to me from my time as a mechanic on Cycles/Snowmobiles/etc.. Rebuilt many a Sled that "was running the best ever" just before it quit. That made me leery of leaning out anything too much.

Base tune from SCT is supposed to be a safe one (Tom agreed with that BTW), I have no knowledge if the range of adjustment they allow beyond that is safe. Your last reported numbers sound like they may be fine, again - without A/F numbers or plug check info. I really can't comment.

Give "Grumpy" Ol' Tom a chance some day, he worries about everyone whether they're his customers or not & has helped many figure out problems at no charge.

Don't know how good a deal you got on that tuner with the base SCT loaded tunes, the ones I've seen advertised are only $20 cheaper than the blank ones Tom sells when combined with his services.

Keep on testing & checking as well as you can, "Old School" plug check wouldn't hurt IMHO.

Best of Luck.

Thanks Sailor,

I have nothing against Tom, I've stated throughout this thread that he is VERY experienced with the focus ECU / Tuning. I was just offended by the manner it was done, 1 degree of timing isn't going to cause a problem 5-10 deg. sure. I'm even more sure that the car will run MUCH better with Tom's tune, hell I'm not saying I know better I'm just saying that there isn't any danger in the settings I've chosen.

I have no doubt that I will be purchasing a tune from Tom, however I'll need to determine the cost for him to remote in and tune the car.

Troy.

In a MkIII section I saw him confirm $150 for his lifetime N/A tuning, good for anyone who already has a "tuner' he can use.

That includes the remote help as required, he doesn't have to do it all "live" - it's just easier for many when he can give a tutorial & help get things started that way.

Glad you aren't holding a grudge, he comes across as quite "gruff" in print when worried someone (not necessarily you) might use info. wrong & run into trouble. (In spite of all the disclaimers you put in the initial post)

Cheers
