wideband helps with performance?

tom asked me if i had a wideband installed. i had no idea what he was talking about. i looked into it and it was a gauge. Pretty expensive too.
Would this help with tuning? Does it increase power?

It helps him to see what your air fuel ratio is. Also cfm is having a sale and has them for 179.00

as far as I know it does help with tuning. not for power, but for keeping the motor safe.

i wish i would of known that before i started adding performance to my car, or was posted as i recommendation on sct.
So now my question is, what was the point of the sct tuner, if he cant see air fuel mixture what does he do then?

You can make a connector to datalog the wideband. That way Tom can make adjustments to the updated tune.

Moved to "ECU Tuning Chat" as your tuning questions can better be answered there.

^^^This. It allows him to make more precise measurements to your lean/rich measurement. Too far either way is bad for the engine.

Here's a full writeup I did with my FSwerks aftermarket header. its not too difficult, just getting it figured out is the hard part. It seems a lot more challenging than it is.

I know what you mean about kinda being blindesided with "oh, by the way, here's a $200 dollar part that you pretty much need on top of the price of the tune." I was pretty surprised that I hadn't heard of anything like that before from anyone on the site. Oh well though, live and learn I guess.

Awesome write up btw! So im pretty much obligated to buy this a/f gauge then? ive been running my car for a month now, everything seems fine with it so far, but i did do the spark plugs a week ago and i am running lean.

I don't want to say you have to, but if you have the money, its probably a good long term investment just to make sure your engine lasts. IIRC, I dont think Tom said its necessary but I like precision, so I ended up opting to get it.

And thanks! I figured someone else would want to see the process, so thats why I did the write up! It can be confusing going into it blind.
