If it does not exist then why.....

iI have seen postings here and there about chips, when i first got on here i asked what the best chips are (not tuners or ecu flashes). everyone body says the same thing, "there are not any chips for the Ford Focus", ok, then big question of the day is, why when i sign in on focusfanatics.com is there an ad on the front page for chips for the focus for $69.00.

just curious, and if there really is not a chip then maybe the site should take down that ad because it false advertising

I wasn't aware they had an ad banner here for that. must check it out because there's no real chip for these.

it just looks like a chip to cut fuel consumption. All it does is send different pulses to the computer to tell it to stop using as much fuel.

The idea of a chip for Ford goes back to the fox body mustang and early EEC-V PCM days. These processors had a dedicated J7 port on the processor where I physical chip could be programmed and installed. This chip would bypass the eeprom on the PCM with its own programming. This chip essentially did the same thing that todays flash tuners do in that they changed actual parameters in the PCM only the chip did it by bypassing the eeprom whereas the flash tuner rewrites the tables inside the PCM itself.

Ford removed the J7 port from all processors in roughly 2003-2004 or when they switched to the CAN protocol. This is why there are no chips for any CAN based Ford vehicle or anything newer than 2004.

What you see advertised as a "chip" by this gforce company is not an actual chip as described above. It is a joke. It does not install on the PCM and instead typically wires into the IAT sensor wires and tricks the PCM into thinking the air is cooler than it actually is.

The ads aren't in any way affiliated with the website they show up on. They are just there to help pay for the site.
