J&S pulling way to much timing..HELP

So today tom and I started tuning my car again. For some reason way to much timing is being pulled by either tune OR j&S. he has me un-hook my J&S to see because that would tell him it was either the unit or the tune.

It was the J&S. When I logged the car it pulled much harder. tom said timing was better and my airfuel looked much better...

Ive went over my unit a dozen times to make sure all my switches are where they should be and knobs are turned where they should be. Which are: all switches down. 10 degree max, individual cylinders. syns. set to halfway, the two other knobs are at zero.

I cant get ahold of john so I was hoping someone might know something??? I just got my J&S back from getting my rca jack fixed and all I wanna do is TUNE MY CAR!!!!

urgh.

thanks.

Sorry I don't know much about the J&S but thinking about it from a troubleshooting standpoint...Did you just have the J&S repaired??? Is that the RCA jack you're speaking of?
If so, naturally I would assume the problem still lies in there. Next, are you able to log each cylinder with a oscilloscope type function of set points? This would quickly tell you if you had a problem with the J&S or wiring base on specific cylinders.
Mind you, i'm just throwing all this out there to try and give you some ideas, I've never played w/ one.
I hope to soon, but not yet :-)

Either way, let us know.

Well the RCA was just for the monitor. shouldnt have anything to do with my timing. So im gonna rule that out. That was just something I broke from me not being careful.

As far as anything else you just said I have no clue... lol I dont know anything about tuning ect... Given that im just relying on tom and what he says. hes told me its with my unit. Either I dont have it setup properly OR something is wrong with it. Ive asked him if hes ran into this problem bfore, he says yes and its usally one of the two things mentioned lol

SO i hope its user error IE: me not setting it up right but as far as I know I do have all the knobs, switchs in the correct position.

I wish I could get ahold of john to just ask him.

03orangesvt: I was a member of the fourms when you went through all this but I wasn't really in the FI world for focus's yet so no I wouldnt remember lol

But this sucks... I would rather talk to john over the phone but I guess I'll try and email him. I hadn't done it this time because the first time I emailed him a while back about my RCA jack being broke he never emailed me back.... and it was by luck when I called him he happend to be in. He mentioned my email and I quote "yes I did see your email but for some reason hadnt responded back" so ya .... back on track..

So orange what did you end up doing to fix your problem?? did it turn out to be your J&S?

it might accually be your knock sensor. I was having problems getting my J&S to work at all john even said he thinks it's the unit, I tried replacing my sensor anyway and everything is fine now. Damage to a knock sensor can cause the sensativity to change in either direction.
John pointed me to a dodge dealer to get a sensor from a 5.7L hemi as thats what he supplies his kits with. I had to fabricate my own dongle but still only costs 20$ in the end to rule it out.

I would be VERY carefull changing to a Diff sensor , The knock sensor works off a frequency and from what I understand they change slightly from sensor to sensor

With FI its a given to set the sensivity at Half +/- with changing the sensor you would have to be on a dyno to make sure where to set the J&S
