megasquirt

anyone using it? If you're going to say, why dont you just use a SCT tuner, you can click that red X, or you can click the back on the back browser.

now that we have that out of that way, anyone using it? I have a very good tuner locally that uses it.

there was a thread a while back, the guy got run off the forums by rampant "why arent you using SCT" bashing. Took him about 4 months to get it up and running. Then 2 months of tuning just to get it to run.

Tim is using it on his lsx turbo.

Aside from that I think the megasquirt does not have near the computing power of modern OEM FI system. Less resolution/dithering etc. So it's not nearly as precise. That's not neccessarily a problem, unless you are looking for lower emissions and better fuel economy. For a track only car it's not a such a bad thing. But since it's cheap with completely open source programming etc it's a great solution for carbureted cars or FI systems that have not been hacked yet. I think it would be better than a piggyback. My friend is building one for his second gen RX7 track car cause there are no decent inexpensive solutions to recal the factory FI.

For us the SCT stuff is pretty powerful and not too pricey. But if you want to learn more about megasquirt try some of the Mazda forums or just find the megasquirt tuner forums. There has to be at least one out there.

Yep, I just googled "megasquirt fourms" this one was at the top, there were at least 2 more.

Theres been several people here who have ordered the kit to use on their car, but they either ran into troubles or figured out it wasn't worth the hassle.
Go for it, that way we can all here about the problems encountered. It's definitely not plug and play tuning and a tune has to be built from scratch, every bit of it. Hope you have plenty of time on your hands to figure it all out.
Sometimes you can find a basic base tune for certain cars, but most of the time not.

You may also want to check out the rpm spacing for fuel and timing adjustments. IIRC it's pretty wide

Actually , I have tuned with MS many times , it controles the bare things that need to be addresses to keep the engine safe and thats about all I can say to support it

I do not like it on cars that you can get proper tuning software (Diablosport/SCT Etc )with , cars that you cannot get software for I think there is better products out there to use , I am not a MS fan

No dude, these are facts. Why don't you just read. Megasquirt works good for a OBD-I vehicle that only needs the bare necessities to tune and run. On our OBD-II and greater systems, it is just far too outdated. It would be like trying to run DOS on a new Macbook.

Ugh, you just don't listen and don't give a damn what anyone tries to tell you. I'm well aware that it will work because I've done it myself. The point is you won't get the full capability of your new Mac due to the limitations of DOS. Just like you won't get the full capability of your car's turning due to the limitations of megasquirt. this, you don't want to hear the advice, then don't post asking for it cause everyone that has posted has posted solid facts about MS but you just called it "bashing".

Everyone posted something constructive about it. Why wouldn't you want to hear from Tom, who said he's used it in the past?

I personally have not used it in the past, but I have nothing but good things to say about what I have used (SCT). Won't tell you to get it but I doubt you're going to find anyone that has anything good to say about MS...

All I hear is good advice, take it or leave it.
