Tuning question from a n00b in CA

Hey guys, like I said, I'm a tuning newb. Anyway, on to my question. I have a Cosworth CAI on my car, and my next performance mod is probably going to be a CFM 65 mm throttle body. I know you want to tune after doing mods like this, so what are my options? Keep in mind that I live in CA, so any mods have to be CARB legal (kinda). Is there some way to tune and then revert back to stock tuning for when I have to take the car in for smog or things like that? Also, is a tune going to adversely affect my mpg a ton? Last question: Eventually I will also be putting a catback on the car, should I wait until I do that, since it won't be a while, to get the tune, or is it going to cost me a small fortune to have to retune the car again? I guess I had one more question, are all of these tunes going to be something I can do with something I can order online and use myself, or does someone need to remote ECU tune my car? Thanks everybody.

1. A tune is not picked up in a SMOG check. As long as you have no CEL and/or all your emissions systems have ran, the ECU will pass the test. Im not 100% sure on this but I beleive that you can go back to stock for the SMOG check then back again to your preformance tune.

2. You will may pick up MPG's in a tune. Because your car will basicly be running at peak preformance.

3. Tune now! 1turbofocus AKA Tom, offers free updates on his tune as you add parts to your car. (as long as you stay N/A) IMO, Tom's tune is the most cost effective tune on the market for the focus.

4. Tom and Focus sport both do remote tunning via email. Basicly you install a base line tune, run the car and datalog your run, send it back to the tuner then the adjust it from there.

On a side note I read a really good article in Modified last night that talked about the needs for tunning even after adding just a CAI, and had dynos to show why.

Yeah, I want to do one ASAP since I have a CAI, I just wasn't sure about it because I didn't wanna pay a bunch of money for another tune after adding the TB and then again after adding exhaust.

I agree and have been saying this for years and after a few guys hurt there engines I made the decision to offer free updates so this wouldnt happen again

Its still going to happen and its ashame but some are hard headed and had rather pay extra then to do what good and right

Yeah, I really want to get that tune as soon as I can. That would require having a job, which might happen this summer with Tesla.

About 400 bucks and I'm tuned for life?

Tom, the next thing on my mod list is officially a tune from you. Let's just hope the money gets figured out sooner than later.
