Datalogging J&S

Alright well I posted this in the FI but I think it also falls into this section as well.

I want to datalog my J&S...rather how many lights are lighting up while datalogging.

Tom told me this could be done and that a few members on here have done it and worked.

Just wondering if someone could chime in and give me some input!
thanks!

I am only "pretty sure" that thread has everything you need. Let me know if you need more specific directions.

Thats exactly what I was looking for. It gave me the idea as to how to hook it up. SO now my question is what is the formula I need to input to convert the signal?

OH and another question... I'm using an X3. I plan to use a cable like whats provided with my J&S monitior to hook up to my firewire cable. which I believe is just a normal speaker wire you can buy. So I buy one with two male ends. Cut one end to wire up to my firewire. is this a direct connect like it was with my wideband and firewire??

thanks for the helpful info!

I don't know anything about the X3, but FWIW I connected it in the same way that I connected my wideband (as shown in the first diagram in the linked thread).

As far as I know, nobody has gone to the trouble of processing the J&S monitor signal to get degrees of knock, individual cylinder information, or whatever else their monitor can display, so there is no "formula" that I know of. The J&S Monitor wire has a flat 0 voltage when it is not detecting knock. When it does detect knock, you'll see quick spikes of activity... which will let you examine the rest of the logged parameters at that exact moment. This will help you adjust the tune to avoid knock.

Here's an old screenshot of it working (also stuck this in the original thread):

Ok thank you!

Tom had said something about a formula... Assuming like the wideband you had to put one in to actually see something. Well I'm going to give this a shot. If it doesn't help Tom then I can take it all out and rely on my eyes lol

thanks again mellephants!!
