Tunes!!!

Hey guys,

Like some of you might know i am putting is an svt header, removing the cat, adding a 2.5" exhaust, installed a CAI and other non engine mods... the question is...is ther a cheaper way to ghet a tune? I mean a $350 xcalibrator and paying "Tom" $150 plus getting a $200 wideban oxygen sensor sounds ALOT extreme since I am only doing the above stated mods and nothing else. I mean seriously $700 is insane unless I was quoted in mexican pesos. I called a tune shop that my boy referred me to in Brooklyn and they told me that i would have to get an aftermarket CPU in order to get a tune in my car...is this correct? I know they usually only deal with imports but that sounds extreme to. Before anyone jumps down my throat, I know that "Tom" is like an Egyptian Magician with the tunes and such but for someone like me there has to be a MUCH cheaper way to go, as I said this will be the only tune I need since I will go no furthur. please let me know.

Thanks,

Juan

Anyone in the NY area or even NJ that could help me out with advice or refer me to someone...I would greatly appreciate it.

Easiest, least intrusive way to tune is via a flasher whether it's SCT or Diablo, I would stay away from "chips" or CPU or anything of that nature.

if you are only doing that..then just buy a xcal3 from tom for 399 and that includes the tune, and leave it like that. no need for a wideband..

I hear's ya and I would love to do that but $700 is just WAY over my head right now or ever for a one time thing. After I buy that xcalibrator thing for $350 and use it once I will only be able to sell it for a hundred afterwards. just doesnt seem right, there has to be another option.

Maybe if anyone has one of these xcalibrator dohickies in the ny area I could "rent" it from them, get a tune from ole tommy boy and give it back to them right there... anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? anyone?

hmmmm Rowdy. Didnt know i could do that...something to think about. That way it stays "stock" so to speak and I can just sell it for $200 or so over here and all it cost me is 200. Does that sound right or can that even be done that way? it will benefit me and the next guy who gets it, no?

Any lower cost method that may be available, I fear you don't have the proper knowledge to modify the ECU without blowing the car up.

Save your money and do things the safe and proper way. Or risk engine damage.

Dont fear that I dont have the proper knowledge, KNOW it, lol. I am so new I'm still wet behind the ears. I'm going to do it the way that Rowdy said , through Tom. The way everyone explained it to me I was going to to spend $700 for a one time tune from Tom (1TTFT, lol) and I was just explained that it would cost me $400 and some cash back when I sell the xcalibrator. I am much happier now

Thanks Guys.
