what can cause the ecu to unprogram?

I have a 2005 focus se. The last week in December I had to have it towed the local ford dealer necause it would not start. It would turn over like it wanted to start but wouldn't. The dealership ran the diagnostic and they said the ecu needed to be reprogrammed. They did and kept it for a couple of days and it started fine. Then last week I got in it to start it and my radio turned to am and wouldn't start. turned the key to the off position and back on and it started and the radio stayed on fm. I didn't know since the temps. here have been below 0 if maybe that was it last week or not. Today got out to start it to let it warm up and nothing. the radio sounds like it wants to eject a cd and the red factory alarm light flashes. Please help. I love the car but if it's going to keep doing this , it's going to get traded in. any ideas??

thanks for the help.

major electrical surge. enough that it would have also set your car on fire though.

My guess would be the Batt , poor Batt connection , ground wires etc , ECU does not loose programs

If this is true tom,
why doesn't my car go pass 106 anymore? i took it to the dealership several years ago......it was under warreny then. the tech and i were friends. he said he made the car run better. he told me he took off the top speed govoner. I took a trip to busch gardens with the wifey............... the car was running way better that it has ever run. i did decide to test the top end. I ran the car up to 120 mph and backed off. i nearly pissed myself! a few weeks later i left my lights on..........it was foggy. i left the lights on for over 11hours. it was dead. i got a jump start. i did notice after that, the car wasn't driving the same. top end was back to stock and the mileage wen back to the same............sucky!

First no dealer has the ability to change anything in the ECU other then the preprogrammed setting Ford sends them

If he did change anything it was with a Diablo , sniper , SCT

Software does not loose programming because of the Batt low or disconected , I had my SVT with no Batt for 3 months and replaced it and went to the track and still safely ran a 13.28 after 3 months
